The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at a governing council meeting on Friday (March 25) proposed a six-team Women's IPL from next year (2023). It has been a long wait that fans and many cricket pundits have been calling for a Women's IPL and months after saying that the board is waiting for the number of women players in the country to grow before agreeing on hosting a Women's IPL.
The BCCI has been hosting the Women's T20 Challenge tournament alongside the men's IPL but with only three teams. Last year when the men's IPL was played in two phases due to a Covid outbreak in a few franchises, the Women's T20 Challenge was cancelled altogether.
