Recently, while promoting the final film of his late father, the legendary Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor claimed that his uncle Randhir Kapoor, father of Kareena Kapoor is going through an early stage of dementia.  

He further added that after watching Sharmaji Namkeen, he came looking for his younger brother Rishi Kapoor who passed away in 2020.

Ranbir told NDTV, “I remember when my entire family saw it, my father's elder brother, my uncle Randhir Kapoor, who is going through an early stage of dementia, and he came to me after the film and said, ‘Tell dad that he was amazing in this film, and where is he, let’s call him'. Art crosses boundaries of medical conditions, issues, conflicts and a good piece of storytelling is what stands tall. Sharmaji Namkeen really embodies that.”

Later, Randhir was contacted by TOI and the veteran actor refuted his nephew’s claim saying nothing like that happened and Ranbir is entitled to his opinion.  

He also added that he has recently returned from Goa after attending a festival with his friend and filmmaker Rahul Rawail.  

He told the website, “Aisa kuch nahi hua (Nothing of his sort has happened). Not at all. I am perfectly fine. I just had Covid sometime ago (in April 2021). Ranbir ki marzi (It's Ranbir's wish); he is entitled to say what he wants. I never said that. I am alright. In fact, I have just returned from Goa with Rahul Rawail. We were there at the Goa festival.” 

Meanwhile, Sharmaji Namkeen has been released on Amazon Prime Video. Directed by Hitesh Bhatia, the film was partially shot with Rishi Kapoor before he passed away.

Later, the makers tried to get Ranbir on board to complete the remaining portions using prosthetics but that didn’t work. 

Eventually, Paresh Rawal was signed to complete the film.
