Flying The 'United' Way, IndiGo Just Proved That It Can Man-Handle Its Customers Really Well

Well, history does repeat itself.

As if once wasn't enough, something quite similar to the infamous United Airlines incident has happened again, but this time a little closer to home. Yesterday, a video surfaced online showing an IndiGo staff member assaulting a traveller at the Delhi airport.

The shocking video starts with a passenger being stopped from entering a coach and then the situation quickly escalates with the staff literally pinning him to the ground.

Reportedly, the incident occurred on October 15 when Indigo flight number 6E 487 flew into Delhi from Chennai. The passenger, Rajiv Katiyal, seemed to be having a bit of a scuffle with the staff and could be seen muttering his way to the bus that was waiting for him. Then, it seemed like one the staff members got a little too annoyed and made sure that Katiyal did not board the bus at all.

The staff physically prevented him from getting on the bus, to which the already angry passenger exclaimed, “How dare you touch me?” The situation quickly gets out of hand, resulting in a fistfight and then Katiyal being pinned down on the ground.

Spot the difference.

Honestly though, IndiGo, don't you remember what happened with United Airlines? Didn't you take that as a cautionary tale?

IndiGo also released a statement on its Twitter account, apologising to Mr. Rajiv Katiyal.

We truly apologise to  Mr. Rajiv Katiyal for this incident & assure him that the employee has been terminated. pic.twitter.com/9xZcSftgit

There's another statement by Aditya Ghosh, President of the company.

We condemn the actions of our staff & have taken stern action. We truly apologize for this. Such behavior is unacceptable - @AdityaGhosh6E pic.twitter.com/lGNT8An7rQ

But, if the whole thing happened last month, then why wait three weeks to take action. Maybe, because they had to do some sort of damage control, since the video had come out and was going viral.

Apparently, the company at first fired the employee who filmed the whole incident, before terminating the culprit.

Wow @IndiGo6E first you thrash a passenger, then you sack the employee who filmed the evidence. Shameful

1. @IndiGo6E have sacked whistleblower who exposed them. NOT employees who beat up passenger.

2. Apologized only after media reported case. https://t.co/7tsASQj5td

Everyone on Twitter agreed that this was completely out of line and totally unacceptable. People started calling out the airlines, saying that they won't fly with IndiGo unless strict actions are taken.

Not flying @IndiGo6E again unless the airline sacks the enployees and files FIRs against them https://t.co/CgA03yMCK3

Do nothing for 3 weeks, sack whistle-blower, & put perfunctory apology when exposed.
Indigo is not a low-cost airline.
Just a cheap airline.

Last week, even PV Sindhu called out the staff for misbehaving with her.

Sorry to say ..i had a very bad experienceð¤when i was flying by 6E 608 flight to bombay on 4th nov the ground staff by name Mr ajeetesh(1/3)

Then, there were some jokes about the whole situation as well, because obviously, it's Twitter.

Now you don't need to travel with American airlines like United to get beaten up. Our very own Indigo is there to serve you.#MakeInIndia
