Well, it seems like there aren't enough people to put in jail, that now even animals aren't safe. 

In a bizarre turn of events, 8 donkeys were put in jail in the Jalaun district in Uttar Pradesh last week. Why? Because they were just being donkeys and ate some plants. 

Apparently, they destroyed plants worth â¹5 lakh that the senior officer of the jail had arranged for planting inside the facility, and therefore the donkeys were locked-up for about four days. Donkeys are such intelligent animals, right, they should know they can't eat such expensive plants, they can't afford it. 

"These donkeys had destroyed some very expensive plants which our senior officer had arranged for planting inside jail and despite warnings the owner let loose his animals here so we detained the donkeys," Urai jail head constable RK Mishra was quoted by news agency ANI as saying.

The donkeys were detained on November 24, after which the owners were searching for the animals frantically. After finding out that the donkeys were in jail, the owner requested for their release, but the police refused. 

Since there was no other way left, the owner approached the local BJP leader Shakti Gahoi for help, who then accompanied him and the donkeys were released after then only.

At least the donkeys were living it up while in jail. “We made all the arrangements for them inside. They were fed two times a day,” said a jail official.

But, the innocent animals served time for no reason at all. If it was the owner's fault, why did these 8 donkeys have to serve jail time? They were just eating, what a big crime they committed!

I have one question – if it was cows that destroyed expensive plants, would they have had the same punishment? Probably not, and that's not fair. All animals matter. #JusticeForDonkeys

Well, now since the world is safe from such dangerous criminals, maybe the police will focus on catching and locking up people who are actually committing crimes.
