Since President Trump’s inauguration, People have been threatening him with assassination tweets and they amount up to 12,000 of them! Mashable reports that the Secret Service is currently working hard to differentiate between non-threatening tweets and tweets with some serious intentions.

A man who tweeted “My life goal is to assassinate Trump the night of the election” has already been charged and a woman who tweeted "If someone was cruel enough to assassinate MLK, maybe someone will be kind enough to assassinate Trump." is currently being investigated.

Facebook and Twitter follow a policy of removing life-threatening posts on its platforms however it doesn’t seem like they are going to anything about the sudden influx of posts anytime soon.

There are many one-off posts and people with no criminal record who are posting threatening status due to which most these statuses tend to get passed over. The Secret Service is currently on the lookout for people who are consistent with their behavior and also repeats his/her intention to kill the president. People who have made threats in the past are more likely to receive more attention from the Secret Service and possibly get investigated as well.

According to a criminal justice professor, Trump has been attracting more backlash than any of the past presidents is because he himself is very active on Twitter. It is also worth mentioning that Trump has the lowest approval rating of any recent president.
