Instagram Now Sends Alerts When You Screenshot Stories & Lets You Know Who Your Stalkers Are

While Instagram Stories are meant to last 24 hours, taking a screenshot means that it will pretty much last forever, which sometimes isn't what other people want and they will now know when you do it.

Those who have been selected for the A/B testing will receive a warning that the next time they screenshot a story or have a screenshot taken of their own story, it will come with an alert. The feature in development aims to provide users alerts whenever someone takes a screenshot of their Instagram Stories or records them.

As TechCrunch reports, those who take a screenshot will appear in the list of story viewers with a camera shutter logo next to their name. Earlier, the alerts for screenshots were provided when someone would take a screenshot of a private direct message.

Regarding the development, Instagram released this statement: “We are always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and make it easier to share any moment with the people who matter to you.”

Instagram is also warning users that their screenshot-taking habits are no longer private. “Next time you take a screenshot or screen recording, the person who posted the story will be able to see,” the warning message reads.

However, if your smartphone is set to Airplane Mode when you take the screenshot, you'll be able to bypass the warning. If you haven't been warned about screenshots in the app, it might not have dropped for you just yet.

We expect Instagram to roll out this feature publicly in the coming few weeks like every other beta channel feature.

This isn't something new in the current social media scenario, Snapchat had this tiny little feature since its inception and has been a core part of their product -- disappearing messages.
