No matter how progressive, technologically advanced and financially sound we get, patriarchal prejudices are hard to get rid of. The preference of a boy child over a girl is very much a reality today, and daughters, no matter how loved and pampered, are still considered ‘paraya dhan’. She will eventually go away to her husband’s house, so why invest too much on her, is often a thought. 

Of course, not everyone thinks like that. And who else other than the original angry young man of India, Amitabh Bachchan, to bring that point home. He tweeted a message about giving daughters their due and an equal share in assets.

It is no secret that he dotes on his daughter Shweta and on his granddaughters. Big B has in the past too encouraged his daughters to be their own person, and had written a heartfelt letter to his granddaughters.
