2018 was majorly a year for superhero, drama and musical films. Though we saw a few good scary flicks like 'A Quiet Place', 'Hereditary' and the sequel of 'Halloween', horror was not the genre that ruled Hollywood last year.
However, this year, major horror films are releasing including the much talked about the sequel of 'It' and we are sure movie buffs will be preparing themselves to get scared like never before.
Let us take a look at some of the most awaited horror films of 2019:1. Us
From Academy Award winner Jordan Peele comes another horror film that has already fetched amazing reviews on its first look. 'Us' is Peele's second feature film following 'Get Out' (2017).
The Blumhouse Production dropped the trailer of the film on Christmas this year. What looks much similar to 'Get Out' is actually going to be quite different from it, explains Jordan.
Starring Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke in lead roles, the film's trailer chronicles how a family on vacation gets horrified as they come face-to-face with masked creatures that look exactly like them.
The film seems to offer many scary moments and has got some major supernatural elements to it.
'Us' remains on the top of our list, and we are also expecting the film to break many records.2. It: Chapter 2
Stephen King's novel adaptation 'It' became the highest grossing horror film of all time surpassing others in the league including 'The Exorcist', 'Get Out' and 'The Conjuring'.
The second chapter of the film is already in the making and is expected to hit the silver screen in September 2019. The film stars Jessica Chastain, Bil Hader, James McAvoy, Bill Skarsgård and James Ransone. After 27 years, the evil clown Pennywise makes his return to take revenge from the now grown-up members of the Losers' Club.
It is expected that the Warner Bros. will be releasing the first trailer of the sequel much earlier before the film's release. Previously this month, Stephen King wrote on his Twitter account, 'IT CHAPTER 2 is coming'. We are sure, the trailer may be just around the corner.3. Annabelle 3
The prequel of the horror franchise released earlier in 2018 and did a commendable business at the US Box office. The makers of 'Annabelle' are now gearing up for the release of the third part of the film.
'Annabelle 3' will take the audience into the journey of the possessed doll and will depict how it wreaked havoc at paranormal investigators' Ed and Lorraine's house museum.
The film stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in lead roles. This looks like a promising attempt in giving a final touch to the 'Annabelle' franchise. Producer James Wan has described this as 'Night at the Museum with Annabelle'.4. Grudge
'The Grudge' series is one of the most talked about horror franchises in the world. The film has got various reboots, sequels, and remakes and remains in headlines every now and then with more new versions.
The film came up in the year 2004 with the remake of the 2002 Japanese film 'Ju-on: The Grudge'. Since then, 'The Grudge' franchise has only grown.
The film's thirteenth part will be releasing in 2019, and we are expecting it to be on similar lines of the previous films.
The film may see a good turnout due to its popularity, we may expect everything supernatural and eerie in this one.5. Escape Room
The dark horror kicks off the 2019 horror season. Featuring Taylor Russell and Deborah Ann Woll in lead roles, the story of the film revolves around the lives of two youngsters who are invited to compete against each other in an escape room challenge.
A major twist in the story happens to be the death penalty to the one leaving the escape room at last. Directed by Adam Robitel who also happens to be the director of 'Insidious: The Last Key', the film is an early January release.
The trailer outlines a different concept chosen for this film, much different from the usual creepy horror films.6. Happy Death Day 2U
What looks like a perfect scare, 'Happy Death Day 2U' offers jitters and a good story. Starring Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Suraj Sharma, and Ruby Modine, the film is the second version of the 2017 film 'Happy Death Day'.
Directed by Christopher Landon, the movie revolves around the protagonist Tree Gelbman, who is stuck in a time loop. She must die in order to save her pals from a mysterious killer who happens to appear again and again at the end of each time loop.
If we break down the trailer of the film, it offers some major spooks throughout. The film will hit theatres in February this year.7. The Prodigy
The prodigy looks like an extremely dark film showcasing how a little genius turns into a monster.
After watching the trailer of the film we could intercept that the child prodigy in the spotlight, Miles, is either the next Ted Bundy or has got some demonic powers just like Damien of 'The Omen'.
This kid is giving us the psychopath vibes, we know he is evil. Let us tell you that the character of Miles is being played by Jackson Robert Scott who got his breakthrough role as Georgie of 'It'.
Directed by Nicholas McCarthy, the film also stars actors Taylor Schilling and Peter Mooney.8. Pet Sematary
'Sometimes dead is better' says the trailer of this horrifying saga. 'Pet Sematary' is an adaptation of Stephen King's one of the most talked about novels by the same name.
The story begins when a family shifts to a new house in the middle of the woods and come face-to-face with the unusual. Animal faced creatures lurk around the house ultimately causing chaos, confusion, terror and hysteria.
This film will take you back to the notion of avoiding to live nearby a graveyard.
Directed by Kevin Kolsch, Dennis Widmyer, 'Pet Sematary' may be as spooky as 'Hereditary', the trailer speaks of it all. The film will hit the silver screen in April this year.9. The Curse of La Llorona
'The Curse of La Llorona' is the supernatural film based on the story of 'The Weeping Woman' and portrays how two kids are haunted by supernatural elements, prominently by the 'woman who weeps'.
While the kids remain at the centre of the film, it looks similar to the two 'Conjuring' films. The movie stars Linda Cardellini, Raymond Cruz, and Patricia Velásquez and is the directorial debut by Michael Chaves.
'The Curse of La Llorona' was earlier titled 'The Children'. It is set for the release in April this year.
Though this one is at the end of the list, we would highly recommend you to watch it, especially if you love the 'Conjuring' series. Maybe, there are absolutely no similarities between the two!10. In The Tall Grass
Looks like Hollywood is getting too much inspired by Stephen King's novels. 'In the Tall Grass' happens to be an adaptation of King's novel and is amongst one of the most awaited horror films releasing in 2019.
The film stars Patrick Wilson in the lead role, who is also most famously seen in the Conjuring series. Actors Laysla De Oliveira, Harrison Gilbertson, Avery Whitted, Rachel Wilson, and Will Buie Jr are also there in the film.
After hearing a boy's cry for help, a sister and brother begin their journey into a field of grass in Kansas City. The grass field turns out to be an eerie land leaving them with no possibilities of escaping. The film is directed by Vincenzo Natali and may release in 2019 end.
