With their arch-rivals Manchester City temporarily at the top position, Liverpool had a great opportunity to dethrone Pep Guardiola's side and gain pivotal ground in the all-important Premier League title race when they travelled to Old Trafford to take on United on 24th February.
With a game in hand, the Reds were eager to secure all three points and extend their lead with a potential win over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men. But, in a match that was plagued by injuries, Liverpool failed to make the opportunities count and eventually had to settle for a point following their frustrating goalless draw.
The turn of events at Old Trafford already had the Liverpool boss frustrated, but an incident in the second-half turned his frustration into anger. Unable to beat United goalkeeper David de Gea, Klopp decided to take off club captain Jordan Henderson and deployed Xherdan Shaqiri in the 72nd minute.
Bonus, where that happenedâð»#MCICHE match, this happened between #Klopp and #Henderson in the #LiVSOU match pic.twitter.com/tgAQ46ZCKK Iam sure this will be an afterthought on the day all considering. But, the substitution didn't go down well with the Liverpool midfielder who, upon his return to the touchline, snubbed Klopp for a handshake. Angered by Henderson's snub, the Liverpool boss was seen giving a mouthful to his captain even as he tried to explain his actions.
Later, the incident became the topic of great discussion on the social media with football fans expressing their views on the entire episode.February 24, 2019
Klopp giving Henderson a bollocking then when he didn't shake his hand coming off— Ross Kewley (@RossKewley8) February 24, 2019
Lack of disrespect from Henderson to Klopp. Didnt even shake Klopps hand when he was subbed for Shaqiri who can score goals. Klopp made sure he noticed. Disprespectful captain. #MNULIV— Bruce G™ (@bruceg87) February 24, 2019 February 24, 2019
