If you're a big Marquez fan, like me, then the headline has probably already left you beaming with joy and with a little bit of scepticism of 'but how'?. Well, it's true. Netflix is officially turning celebrated author Gabriel García Márquez's iconic work '100 years Of Solitude' into a legit series.
The best part about this development is that the project will be helmed and produced by his sons Rodrigo Garcia and Gonzalo García Barcha to ensure that the authenticity of the series is maintained.
"For decades, our father was reluctant to sell the film rights to Cien Años de Soledad because he believed that it could not be made under the time constraints of a feature film, or that producing it in a language other than Spanish would not do it justice. But in the current golden age of series, with the level of talented writing and directing, the cinematic quality of content, and the acceptance by worldwide audiences of programs in foreign languages, the time could not be better to bring an adaptation to the extraordinary global viewership that Netflix provides. We are excited to support Netflix and the filmmakers in this venture, and eager to see the final product”, Garcia said.
The iconic and timeless tale of complex emotions embedded beautifully, showing through various character is probably his best work. The book follows the Buendía family which lives in the fictitious town of Macondo.
Marquez was known for infusing the techniques of magic-realism in his work and bringing characters to life with his sheer brilliance. There is no official information on the cast and crew, but we trust the makers to do a fine job and do justice to one of the finest literary works ever.
