At a time when our country is said to be at its intolerant best, and communal rifts are getting wider owing to multiple concerns, right from food preferences to religious beliefs and whatnot, people like you and me continue to look for some hope, a silver lining, in an otherwise stormy grey sky.

We came across such a ray of hope in the form of a 27-year-old man from Bengaluru's Rajajinagar whose name is Saddam Hussein. And what's special about this man is that he is a living example that humanity is the biggest religion in the world and that we must serve first and foremost.
At Rajajinagar's Srirama Seva Mandali, Hussein plays an important role by looking after the temple chariot and keeping it serviced throughout the year, for its annual rally across Rajajinagar on the occasion of Ramnavami.

Yes, you read that right. A Muslim man who is invested in maintaining a temple, and works day in and out to keep the Ram Mandir spick and span for the devotees who come every day to offer their prayers to the Hindu Gods residing in the temple.
Apart from keeping the temple premises clean, Hussein also does odd jobs around the area. From helping people with shifting houses, to working at a shop and also driving a cab, he does it all with an air of confidence and a smile on his face.

People in the area know about Hussein and when asked if they say anything, he told The New Indian Express that, “There are two kinds of people — one, who appreciate me for doing this job, the second pass comments on my work. I just greet them with a smile”
Not just Hussein, but even his mother Mehaboobi also works at the temple when the need for extra workforce arises. She cleans the vessels and does other housekeeping jobs. Their dedication and sincerity, as well as the love for fellow brethren, is an inspiration for all of us.

Like Saddam Hussein, we must step forward for our fellow brothers and sisters at all times, regardless of the God we might pray to, and ensure that our society turns out to be a safe and happy place for each one of us to live and grow in.
