In a rare show of affability and camaraderie between Indian politicians, the country saw two senior politicos of the leading rival parties in India, Shashi Tharoor and Nirmala Sitharaman, coming together to show that regardless of one's political loyalties, we must always place humanity first.
We are aware that Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram legislature, Shashi Tharoor had to cancel his election campaign on Monday, following a freak accident during a Thulabharam offering at the Gandhari Amman Kovil temple in Thampanoor.
#Visuals from Kerala: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has been injured while offering prayers at a temple in Thiruvananthapuram and has been shifted to General Hospital there. He has suffered injuries on his head and has received 6 stitches. Doctors says he is out of danger. pic.twitter.com/oWPYIDFo1D

— Charudatt Fadnisð®ð³ (@CFadnis) April 16, 2019However, yesterday, BJP leader and Union Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman paid a visit to Tharoor in the hospital, wishing him a speedy recovery. This simple humane gesture and show of politeness touched Tharoor, who took to Twitter to express his appreciation.
Touched by the gesture of @nsitharaman, who dropped by today morning to visit me in the hospital, amid her hectic electioneering in Kerala. Civility is a rare virtue in Indian politics - great to see her practice it by example! pic.twitter.com/XqbLf1iCR5
— Shashi Tharoor (@ShashiTharoor) April 16, 2019He posted a photo of his meeting with Sitharaman at the hospital, and wrote that “Civility is a rare virtue in Indian politics - great to see her practice it by example!” We agree to what Tharoor has pointed out as we have witnessed enough muck being tossed between Indian politicians regularly and this gesture indeed deserves a word of praise.
On her part, Sitharaman told ANI earlier today, that she hadn't informed anyone about her visit to the hospital and did it simply because it felt right.
Defence Minister to ANI: I got to know that he (Shashi Tharoor) injured himself while performing some ritual(in Trivandrum)so I thought I should go&wish him well. I hadn't informed anybody, not even in my party circle. On my way back to airport, I thought I should go to hospital. pic.twitter.com/fYSfwE0WZn
— ANI (@ANI) April 17, 2019The society, and therefore the country at large will be such a better place if politicians decided to simply stick to their job in all honesty, and behave more like the civilised citizens they claim to be. What a utopian existence that would be. Don't you agree?
