After Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak and Kabir Khan's '83, Deepika Padukone has now confirmed that she is going to play the character of Draupadi in producer Madhu Mantena's Mahabharata. Deepika has always played intense roles with great conviction. Her upcoming film Chhapaak where she plays acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal reaffirms the same.

Speaking to Mid-Day about the project and playing Draupadi's role, she said, "We all know the Mahabharata for its mythological tales and socio-cultural influence. We derive many of life's lessons from the epic. But the narrative we are most familiar with is that of the epic's leading men. This new perspective will be not only interesting but also significant.”

Given how convincing Deepika's portrayal of the challenging role of Rani Padmavati in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat was, we are pretty convinced she'll nail this one too.

Interestingly, a sketch of Deepika as Draupadi has also started to do the rounds. It was drawn by an artist as early as August 2018. And while it's not the real deal, it is an interesting peak into what Deepika's character could look like.
