Today is 'Bhai Dooj', a festival that celebrates the special bond between brothers and sisters. On this occasion, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal too wished all his 'sisters' in Delhi and launched a 'free bus ride' scheme for women starting today. Can there be a better gift than this? Free Uber and metro rides, maybe.

Anyway, talking about this scheme, starting today, women will now be able to travel in buses for free. Women will be issued a pink ticket for a single journey, if you wish to travel for free. Reportedly, the free bus rides scheme is optional.

Calling him their brother, Kejriwal took to Twitter to share the news with his followers  wrote, "Pink ticket...to all the sisters of the Delhi family, wishing you all on Bhai Dooj. May you all stay safe and progress. The country can develop and progress only when the women progress."

He also wrote in a series of tweets, "Congratulations Delhi!!! This is a historic step for women safety and empowerment." According to reports, to ensure the safety of women on board, the number of marshals in public buses has been increased as well. Earlier, there were over 3000 marshals, now there will be close to 13000.

The free bus ride scheme can be availed by women in Noida-NCR as well.
