Indian Army Rescues Over 1500 Tourists Who Were Stranded In Sikkim Due To Heavy Snowfall

Due to heavy snowfall in Nathu La in East Sikkim, over 1500 tourists got stranded in the snow between 13th Mile and Nathu La Pass on Friday.

At a time when most people almost lost all hope, the Indian Army came to their rescue and took all the stranded tourists to a safe place.

Reportedly, the tourists including women, children and elderly people were returning from Nathu La Pass-Tsomgo Lake when they got stuck midway at different points along the Jawaharlal Nehru Road as the motorable stretch was blocked by snow.

Despite poor visibility and freezing weather, the Indian Army immediately began their rescue mission. The tourists were provided with food, shelter, warm clothes and medicines. Some of the tourists were also accommodated at an Army Camp at 17th mile.

The Army also provided JCB machines and dozers to clear the snow and restore the road connectivity so that the tourists can be safely evacuated to Gangtok.
