Back in the old days, it was not uncommon for most women to have super-controlling fathers, hell-bent on finding eligible grooms for their daughters, irrespective of the woman's choice. Cut to the 21st century, and we have super-chill dads, particularly like Suniel Shetty who, in fact, is ''in love" with the man his daughter Athiya is dating and why not? Given the man is none other than Indian opener KL Rahul.

In an interview with ETimes, the actor, who's ageing like wine, was asked about the people his children Ahan and Athiya are dating.

On this, Suniel said, “I love Ahan's girlfriend and I love whom Athiya is seeing. I do not have a problem with that, Mana (Suniel Shetty's wife) doesn't have a problem with that and they are happy.”

“We love the kids and the kids they are dating. Absolutely love them and I think more than a profession, being happy in life is very important today because that is the space I think that is missing," added the Hera Pheri star.

Coming to Athiya and KL Rahul, they have been dating each other for a few months now. Reportedly, the two met through common friends and hit it off really well.

In the earlier months of their relationship, the lovebirds remained tight-lipped about their budding romance but on Athiya's birthday last year, Rahul made it Insta official.

The lovebirds were in Thailand for their New Year celebrations from where Rahul also shared a picture of the two and captioned it “Hello, Devi prasad....?”, taking some cue from Athiya's father Suniel Shetty's iconic film, Hera Pheri. 

Suniel and his son Ahan dropped laughing emojis as their reaction to the picture.
