Republic Day is right around the corner, and it's one mega national event that every Indian looks forward to. Apart from the high patriotic furore the day invokes, with a showcase of exceptional folk dances and military prowess of our country, one of the other major highlights of the celebration is the tableau showcase.

This year too, on New Year's day, the Centre announced that only 16 out of 32 states have been shortlisted for this year's showcase due to “time constraints”. However, the issue now is that three opposition-ruled states, namely, Kerala, West Bengal and Maharashtra, whose tableaux have been rejected and therefore haven't made it to the list are pretty pissed with the development.

The leaders from the respective states are crying foul over the entire issue and claiming that this is a case of pure discrimination against them. Kerala Law Minister AK Balan was quoted by NDTV on the matter saying, "The Centre becomes berserk whenever they hear the word Kerala or Malayali and added that rejection after the third phase cannot happen "without political interference".

Another Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy said that, "The rejection of the West Bengal tableau for the Republic Day parade is discriminatory. It has been done because West Bengal has been opposing the Centre's CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and the NRC (National Register of Citizens) plans.”
Not only politicians, even people have a lot to say about it.
