We're going through a historical period right now, there's a pandemic going on, the world is under lockdown and it's just unlike anything we've ever seen. It has already affected so many people on a personal level, but the overall effects on the lockdown will be felt after it's actually over. The country is going through an economic crisis and we don't know how long it will take to actually get some stability back. Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy has some suggestions to speed up the recovery of Indian economy and let's just say, people on Twitter politely disagree.

While speaking to Economics Times, he said, "We should take a pledge that we will work ten hours a day, six days a week â as against 40 hours a week â for the next 2-3 years so that we can fast-track and grow the economy much faster."
Oh boy.
He further went on to talk about what the government can do, saying, "On the side of the government, they should appoint a committee of well-respected and accomplished people to advise them on how to remove hassles for these businesses, like during the economic reforms of 1991. If we did these two, by and large, we will come out of this much stronger.
I don't even have to explain why his '60 hours work week' idea did not go well with people and he's being called out left, right and centre for his comment.
Hmm, a better suggestion.
Narayana Murthy should redistribute his wealth to revive economy https://t.co/xXDoLu3S9a
â v (@saavadikadha) April 30, 2020No thanks.
Been there, done that, fucked up my mental health.
No, thanks, Narayana Murthy. https://t.co/aQMOjSwBTs
Your privilege is showing.
Gotta appreciate the class solidarity dripping from the rich these days. Kiran Shaw, Anand Mahindra and now Mr. Murthy - you self-centered out of touch capitalist blood suckers https://t.co/jKjgIDpeRr
â Sreshta (@Sreshtaaa) April 30, 2020Eat the rich.
Do these weirdos on the internet sucking up to capitalists realise that narayana murthy will never give a shit about you? He would happily let you and a few million others die for a little more profit. https://t.co/kHU0Xp255m
â Lakshmi (@GalatFemme) April 30, 2020Perfect timing.
On the eve of Labour day, which celebrates the achievement of 8 hour work days, Narayana Murthy asks for 10-12hr work days. https://t.co/u7NkvkDAXm
â Chethan (@perfektengineer) April 30, 2020But, no one is ready to have that conversation.
Just noted that respected Narayana Murthy has stated that Corporate India needs to work 60 hours per week after lockdown. But as it is they work on an average a little over 14 hours per day. They are extremely overburdened lot
â Vardhini Bhattacharjee (@vardhiniyerbh) April 30, 2020Apparently.
"WE should take a pledge that WE will work 10 hrs/day, 6 days/week for 2-3 years."
Who is the "WE"? The labourers who do back breaking work? The employees of Infosys? Folks who travel hours to get to work & back?
And yes, forget family time. Work like a slave & pay your taxes.
Please clarify, sir.
Absolutely right
They want men work like machine not a human who needs a social life.
Hmm.
Not to forget most of this money will go to the pockets of these same people who are urging us to work and we will be given very little of it.
â aayushi mahajan (@fab_aayushi) April 30, 2020Please don't support this idea.
Indian IT industry is based on overworking Indian engineers and IT experts so what heâs saying isnât surprising.
Indian right wing will support him because they support every stupid fascist idea and thus that shouldnât be surprising either.
Shame.
for 3.2 lpa? have some shame https://t.co/QbvZEp7HCK
â high iq acc (@The_Sleigher) April 30, 2020Looks like it.
Citizens have to stay locked down. Citizens should donate to the PM trust. Citizens need to do charity. Citizens have to keep paying full salaries even if they arenât getting full salaries themselves. And now, citizens need to work 60 hours a week. Governments wonât do anything? https://t.co/RpuL41txbL
â Rohini Singh (@rohini_sgh) April 30, 2020Great idea.
I have a better solution Murthy.
India's top 63 billionaires have more wealth than the 2019 Union Budget. And India's top 1% owns 58% of India's wealth.
Let's redistribute their wealth to revive economy. 99% wins and loss for just 1%. You are part of that 1%. https://t.co/Vbp6RihB0S
Yeah, fair is fair.
Cool. Pay us by the hour then. And OT. And insurance. And transit allowance. And assured increment.
And all of it in tune with the inflation. https://t.co/eT0MRUFHx9
Exactly.
**** off.. indian workers don't owe capitalists shit and are already exploited by billionaires like murthy to an extraordinary level...the eight-hour workday is the right of every worker which is in place precisely to protect us from corporate parasites like him. https://t.co/XOg2KRcBad
â go carona carona go (@dialecticsoupy) April 30, 2020Well people are pretty upset with something he mentioned casually but forgot to consider the health and time is also at stake here.
