Apple just confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that their manufacturing partners in India have begun the domestic production of the iPhone SE. Previously, Apple produced almost all of their products in China, barring the new facility in India, which will now shell out the iPhone which will have a label, โAssembled In Indiaโ.
India has been Appleโs top priority as the company is looking to expand and grow iPhone sales in new markets. The report says that Apple is assembling the iPhone SE in Bangalore (Indiaโs Silicon Valley) and will ship to customers later this month. However, Apple has not detailed the price of the Indian made iPhone SE and is expected to hit store shelves, any time this month.

In order to launch Indian retail stores, the Indian government strong-armed the Cupertino company to establish a manufacturing plant in the county. In addition to the manufacturing plant, the government also wanted Apple to source at least 30% of their components locally.ย

Even though this might save Apple a lot of money, as they will be able to cut costs, Apple is not known for pricing their products differently according to a region. Analysts expect the Indian made iPhone SE to retail for INR 15,000 but it seems highly unlikely. However, in an attempt to capture a higher market share of the Indian market, Apple might make an exception and price the iPhone SE lower than what is expected. In the near future, Apple is also expected to manufacture the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in India.ย
