Richa Chadha's ‘Madam Chief Minister’ Trailer Receives Mixed Reactions Making Twitter A War Zone

Madam Chief Minister’s trailer finally dropped today and it has been receiving polarising reactions on Twitter already.

The serious political drama starring Richa Chadha in the lead, Akshay Oberoi and Manav Kaul is set to release on July 2020.

Written and directed by Subhash Kapoor, the film’s poster was released yesterday.

If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, take a look at it here:

Richa Chadha plays the role of a shrewd politician with significant clout in Uttar Pradesh. The film follows her journey as she breaks multiple glass ceilings to become a prominent politician.

Interestingly, Director Subhash Kapoor was a political journalist in the 90s before he ventured into the films.

People are definitely impressed.

What a stellar trailer, @RichaChadha!
While the stereotypical representation in poster is problematic, but a very few artists like you have always been allies in our movement against caste system, often at a personal & professional cost.
My best wishes! https://t.co/6mcUKbzc38

They’re praising Richa’s performance.

From Bhooli Punjaban in Fukrey to Nagma in Gangs of Wasseypur to Devi in Masaan, to her latest Madam Chief Minister, she’s always pushed the envelope with her sterling performances. Congratulations @RichaChadha and so looking forward to seeing this https://t.co/JQwVPxvFtd

But some people think it’s tone-deaf.

Then it is a horrible representation. Not just that, it is unethical and deliberately tone-deaf.

Or the fact that it’s 'overrated' at the same time.
