A couple of weeks ago, ahead of the Sydney Test Australian Pacer Mitchell Starc and wicket-keeper batswoman Alyssa Healy talked about an incredible encounter with Virat Kohli over a decade ago, in a YouTube video.
“Ellyse Perry and I were sitting there and this guy wandered over to us, this young Indian guy. He didn’t introduce himself. He said ‘hello, how are you?’ and then he said ‘I am the next big thing in Indian cricket’,” said Healy in the video.
At the time, the two Australian cricketers had taken that Indian cricketer’s words jokingly and simply laughed it off but clearly he meant every bit of it.
“It was Virat Kohli,” Healy added. “I have never been able to confirm that story but I swear to god that that was Virat.”
And even though the Australian cricketer left us with an unconfirmed story in that video, asking Kohli to reaffirm her memory, yet another source, closer to home also told the same story to his followers.
In yet another YouTube video, Ravichandran Ashwin told the exact same story to his subscribers.
“That tournament was a quadrangular series… The who’s who, the later superstars of world cricket played in that competition. Right after the series was over, there was a dinner and get-together,” Ashwin said.
“At that time, Virat went and introduced himself to Alyssa Healy. He said ‘Hi, this is Virat Kohli. The next big thing in Indian cricket’,” added the Indian allrounder while talking about the memory he has from that tour.
