‘Nice Donkey Footwork, Mate’ Tim Paine’s Unusual Attempt To Kick The Ball Got Fans’ Attention

The Brisbane Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy seems to be becoming the eventful conclusion that this dramatic series is worthy of.

Australian Test cricket skipper, Tim Paine has once again become the butt of several jokes after cricket.com.au shared a video of the batsman trying to ‘back kick’ a Washington Sundar delivery.

When the incident took place in the middle of the game, even the Indian fielders around Paine were unable to comprehend what the wicket-keeper batsman was trying to do. Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane even asked what Paine was thinking while doing it and the two international stars shared a quick laugh.

However, the fans of the Indian cricket team weren’t as forgiving as the innocent Rahane and pour on Twitter with jokes of their own:

That’s a brilliant Donkey footwork mate

Soon after, Paine was made to walk back to the pavilion by Gabba hit Shardul Thakur who got him on a top edge as the ball flew into wicket keeper Rishabh Pant’s hand. The skipper’s contribution of the Australian total in the second innings - 27 runs.

The 2020-21 Test series against India has not been the most memorable four-match stint in the international career of Paine who has been criticised for not performing well with the bat or behind the stumps, taking bad DRS reviews and has also been fined for losing his cool on the umpires.

That review didn't work

Day 4 of the Gabba Test has the Indian bowlers make a strong comeback in the match in the second innings after they removed the strong Australian top-order from the strike in the first and second sessions.

The biggest early success came at the hands of Mohammed Siraj who was able to take Marnus Labuschagne’s wicket off a Rohit Sharm catch and dismiss the highest scoring batsman of the series for just 25 runs in the 31st over.

The Men in Blue also scalped the wickets of Matthew Wade (0), Steve Smith (55) and Cameroon Green (37) to melt the Aussie middle order and keep themselves in a good enough position to aim for the match and series victory.
