In another bizarre episode of ‘this happens only in India’, a couple allegedly murdered their two daughters. Recently, V Padmaja, principal of Masterminds IIT Talent School in Madanapalli town of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, was brought in for a Coronavirus test to the Taluk hospital after she allegedly murdered her two daughters.

After she refused to get tested for Coronavirus, she said, “Corona did not come from China… it came from Shiva. I am Shiva and corona will be gone by March.”

She said this to the medical staff who attempted to get a nasal swab for an RT-PCR test.

 Padmaja and her husband Dr. V Purushotham Naidu, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Vice-Principal at the Government Degree College in Madanapalli, have now been arrested for allegedly bludgeoning their two daughters. They killed their two daughters Alekhya (25 years old) and Sai Divya (22 years old) to death with dumbbells at their home.

On Tuesday evening, the couple was presented in front of a civil judge and the couple walked in calmly and will now be kept in Judicial custody for 14 days.

The police tried to piece the story together from the statements given by the couple and also from people who know them. They also collected evidence from the crime scene that led to the murders of their two daughters.

DSP of Madanapalli taluk, Ravi Manohar Achari, said, “It seems like the whole family was involved in some extreme religious belief. The deaths are a result of this.”

The policeman who was involved in the custody of the couple after their arrest said that they were in it together. The couple had moved into the plush, three-storey house in August last year and surrounded their house with paraphernalia such as lemons and aloe vera linked to religious ceremonies.

A police official said, “The parents had no injuries on them but seemed to be in a trance, saying the girls will return.”

However, people who knew them said that it’s hard to believe that the couple were involved in occult practices or have murdered their daughters.

A worker at the Masterminds school said, “I have known the principal of the Masterminds school for over 25 years. I cannot believe she could have done this.”

A police official said, “It seems one of the girls told the parents that they can only get rid of evil by killing them (the daughters), but that they would not die. We have to verify if anyone in the family received treatment for mental illness.”
