Four Indian short films have made it to the Oscars 2021 race this year. Vidya Balan's short film on rape culture has entered the Oscars along withΒ other Indian short films such as Shameless, Saving Chintu, and Tailing Pond.
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala & Vidya Balan and helmed by Shaan Vyas, Natkhat is a 33-minute short film that showcases a mother-son relationship and how it is nurtured in a patriarchal home. The makers took to Twitter to announce the good news.Β

The short film has screened at prestigious international (virtual) film festivals like Tribecaβs We Are One: A Global Film Festival, Indian Film Festival Stuttgart (Where it won the German Star of India Award), London Indian Film Festival in London and Birmingham, the South Asian Film Festival - Orlando/Florida Film Festival, and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.Β
According to a press release, it was at the Best of India Short Film Festival that Natkhat was announced as the Winner and eligible for Oscar 2021 qualification.Β

It will be the official entry from India for the Academy Awards 2021. The film will compete in the Best Live Action Short Film category at the 93rd Oscars ceremony.
