Classic Apple computers have become a collective for quite some time now and many show up for sale on websites like eBay for exorbitant prices. However, some of these computers command a higher value simply because they have certain characteristics than make them unique. Such is the case with an Apple 1 computer that was spotted on eBay for $1.5 million. The reason why this particular model is so expensive is that it was personally built by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak themselves.

The listing was spotted by IGN, and it is one of the six computers built by the Apple co-founders that came with an original Byte Shop KOA wood case. The computer also comes with an unmodified NTI motherboard and is in working condition which is extremely rare for computers from that era.

The eBay listing also points out that this particular model is one of the first 50 units that were built by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. The only parts that have been replaced are the video connectors which is necessary in order for it to work. The owner of the computers claims that he obtained the rare computer in 1974 via a trade-in option for a new Apple II in Montreal, Canada.

“The provenance of this Apple-1 system is seen in #79 on the Official Apple-1 Registry, as the second owner. I took possession in early 1978 from the original owner as part of a trade-in for a newer Apple II computer at the computer store where I maintained all Apple IIs in Montreal, Canada until Apple came to Canada. The  transformer area on the case was recently reinforced, to prevent damage as performed on other similar Apple-1 cases in the past as adhesive deteriorates over time” the posting said.

Apple 1 was the first product to be released by the company in 1975 and was put on sale for $666.66 at the time. It’s not surprising to see a rare working Apple 1 that was built personally by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak would fetch over a million dollars today. If you had the money, would you spend that kind of money to own a piece of technology history? Let us know in the comments what you think about this rare computer going on sale and if you would consider placing a bid on eBay to get one.
