Nostalgia Overload: New Leak Shows Samsungs Next High-End Flip Phone And It Will Run On Android

Samsung has been experimenting a lot with their consumer tech products lately and now it seems like the company is gearing up to introduce the successor of the W2017 flip phone. The brand new flip phone with the model number SM-G9298 was recently certified by China’s regulatory authority i.e. TENAA.

The smartphone will probably be called the W2018 and it looks almost identical to the previous iteration with a few notable differences. According to the listing on TENAA, the smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 821AB SoC and will also sport two 4.2-inch Full HD displays.

The listing also further details that the flip phone will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow and will have 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. It will have a 12-megapixel primary camera and front facing camera with a 5-megapixel sensor. The smartphone has minor upgrades, most notably the processor where the W2017 had the Snapdragon 820 under the hood.

There is no word whether this phone will make an appearance in the international markets or in India. It seems like the updated version might be slated for an international release, since both these devices look rather similar and the W2018 only has minor upgrades. We are still waiting for an official word from Samsung on the status of this phone’s launch in India.

I would definitely buy a flip phone simply because I found it cool to you know — flip the phone. The fact that Samsung is launching the phone with Android Marshmallow makes it easier for people like me who like to use apps and not being stuck with a feature phone which basically is only good for calling.

Would you buy a flip phone in 2017? Let us know!
