‘Well Played Captain’ Virat Kohli’s Neutral Tweet On Farmers’ Protest Has His Fans Confused

The stalemate between the Government of India and the protesting farmers over the farm bill saw significant development when international activists and celebrities like Greta ThunbergRihanna and Mia Khalifa focused their attention on the ongoing movement.

Condemning India’s decision to take away internet access from New Delhi and areas around the capital at the moment of crisis, they spoke about the violation of human rights and urged their followers to start a discussion on the agenda.

why aren’t we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest https://t.co/obmIlXhK9S

What in the human rights violations is going on?! They cut the internet around New Delhi?! #FarmersProtest pic.twitter.com/a5ml1P2ikU

Soon after, many Indian stars started voicing their opinions too, but mostly about how international or external forces should not be trying to participate in internal matters of the country and less about the actual movement itself.

Farmers constitute an extremely important part of our country. And the efforts being undertaken to resolve their issues are evident. Let’s support an amicable resolution, rather than paying attention to anyone creating differences. 🏻#IndiaTogether #IndiaAgainstPropaganda https://t.co/LgAn6tIwWp

Don’t fall for any false propaganda against India or Indian policies. Its important to stand united at this hour w/o any infighting 🏼#IndiaTogether #IndiaAgainstPropaganda

Following the Indian film industry, the cricketing fraternity of the country also jumped in when one of the biggest icons of India, the legendary cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar spoke about protecting the nation’s sovereignty and urged his followers to stay united against propaganda.

India’s sovereignty cannot be compromised. External forces can be spectators but not participants.
Indians know India and should decide for India. Let's remain united as a nation.#IndiaTogether #IndiaAgainstPropaganda

    — Sachin Tendulkar (@sachin_rt) February 3, 2021

“India’s sovereignty cannot be compromised. External forces can be spectators but not participants. Indians know India and should decide for India. Let's remain united as a nation. #IndiaTogether #IndiaAgainstPropaganda,” Tendulkar wrote on Twitter.

It was clear that Tendulkar did not appreciate “external forces” like Rihanna and Mia Khalifa trying to participate in the decision-making process of India and the cricketer made his take on the issue abundantly clear.

But then came the tweet from the captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli, which confused every one of his followers regarding his position on the on-going movement.

Let us all stay united in this hour of disagreements. Farmers are an integral part of our country and I'm sure an amicable solution will be found between all parties to bring about peace and move forward together. #IndiaTogether

    — Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) February 3, 2021

“Let us all stay united in this hour of disagreements. Farmers are an integral part of our country and I'm sure an amicable solution will be found between all parties to bring about peace and move forward together. #IndiaTogether,” Kohli wrote.

The absolutely neutral and extremely diplomatic 228-character tweet by the skipper had his followers bow their heads in amusement and simply say “well played captain”.

“he is in captain position. So if he tweeted against gov,he would be given pressure in squad surely in a indirect manner which would cause further trouble for Indian team,” wrote Twitter user Nirmal Raj on the same thread.

Many are calling him out for not talking about an “amicable solution” when the “peaceful protest” turned violent on Republic Day or for not writing a single tweet about the movement in the last three months.

This is Ghazipur Border. This is your "amicable solution"? pic.twitter.com/TsCM8ng7CJ

    — Kaushik Raj (@kaushikrj6) February 3, 2021

    Not expected from u.
170+ farmers have died and govt isn't giving a damn and u think a solution will be reached?
Roads are blocked, internet is suspended, are we even living in a democracy?
