On the renaming of the stadium, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, “As CM, he used to say Gujaratis must also progress in two fields - sports & armed forces. He took charge of GCA on my request & promoted sports here. His vision was that the world's largest cricket stadium be built here. This 1,32,000-seater stadium will be known as Narendra Modi Stadium.”

He also went on to add, “Coupled with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave & Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, a sports complex will also be built in Naranpura. These three will be equipped to host any international sports event. Ahmedabad to be known as the 'sports city' of India.”
The stadium is spread over 63 acres and has a total of 76 corporate boxes, an Olympic-level swimming pool, an indoor academy, four dressing rooms for athletes, and food courts.

Shameful. Patel ji insult koi BJP se sikhe ..Koi aapne hi Gungan khud krne lagte hai toh usshe jaada koi Ahankari ho nahi sakta...Ab Patel ki Murti hatake Modi ji murti hi batha do Mota bhai..
— Raju Shaikh (@RajuSha35976694) February 24, 2021@AmitShah ji - Naming Ahmedabad as 'sports city of India' is fine, but naming the stadium in Motera as Narendra Modi stadium is too much. Don't allow @BJP4India to fall into the same trap of @INCIndia in re-christening everything with few selected leaders name.
— Raju (@nbrengaraju) February 24, 2021It’s set to be the largest cricket stadium in the world with a capacity of 1,32,000 and it will be hosting the pink-ball Test between India and England from Wednesday.
It’s the first time that the field of an Indian cricket stadium has the facility of LED lights. Not just this, the Narendra Modi stadium is the only stadium in the world to have 11 center pitches on the main ground.
