Criticizing the Centre for not supplying enough vaccines to cater to the needs of Indian capital New Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's government had earlier stated that it will try negotiating with the vaccine producers themselves in order to procure foreign vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna.

However, Kejriwal on Monday (May 24) said that both United States pharmaceutical giants Pfizer and Moderna had made it clear that they would not be selling the vaccines directly to Delhi.

"We've spoken to Pfizer and Moderna for vaccines, and both the manufacturers have refused to sell vaccines directly to us. They have said they will deal with the central government." Kejriwal said while speaking to reporters. "We appeal to the centre to import vaccines and distribute to the states," he added.

Kejriwal's failure to go ahead with a vaccine deal comes a day after Moderna had refused to sell vaccines to the Punjab state as well.

According to officials, Punjab Chief Captain Amarinder Singh had gotten in touch with foreign vaccine developers in order to conclude a deal for direct purchases of the vaccine, however, it was all in vain as Moderna rejected such a deal.

Kejriwal, who was recently called out by the Singapore government for falsely linking a new Covid strain to the island country, has already come under fire for the oxygen crisis in New Delhi which led to the loss of many lives in the city.

Now, with Pfizer and Moderna outrightly choosing to not entertain Kejriwal's initiative, people could not help taking a dig at the Delhi Chief Minister with many even calling it "Bezzati" (an insult) for the AAP government.
