PETA Urging Amul To Start Producing ‘Vegan’ Milk Sparks Vegans Vs Non-Vegans War On Twitter

Veganism is a lifestyle choice that people are adopting now more than ever in India.

It won’t be wrong to say that it is catching up as a trend and is being encouraged since it has many health benefits and can help stop animal cruelty.

Although it’s a long way for Indians to switch to a fully vegan diet, since we have grown up having ghee, milk and butter in our wholesome Indian meals, it’s still gaining pace.

Owing to the growing scope of veganism in India, the animal rights organisation PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), urged the largest dairy producer of the country Amul to start producing vegan milk, instead of cattle milk.

It took to Twitter and wrote, “We would again like to encourage Amul to benefit from the booming vegan food and milk market, instead of wasting resources trying to fight the demand for plant-based products that are only growing. Other companies are responding to market changes, and Amul can too.”

Desis were not too keen on the idea. They cited various reasons why Amul should not produce vegan milk.

However, there were some who were completely on board with the idea. This started a battle on Twitter between vegans and non-vegans.

Here’s are some tweets from the users on the preposition, which basically turned into an all-out war on veganism on Twitter.

India can be vegetarian & I respect vegetarians but vegans are crazy cult. There's no way one can even spend a minute without harming animals in civilization.
We don't need that fancy overpriced milk, that basically Isn't a milk. Will they pay the difference

Muck PETA. Because of Amul thousands of dairy farmers earn their livelihood. Dairy milk has no comparison with synthetic milk.
These are the moments when I lose my cool

Thanks but no thanks

I trust cow’s milk more .

My ancestors have evolved on a milk based diet at least for last 5000 years.

I still don’t know the long term impact of many vegan milks on my health .

Sure, apart from that too vegan milk has a poor nutritional profile than actual milk when compared as per cost. These lot also push for the removal of eggs from mid-day meal when they are wholesome food which would not actually help in protein intake but other micronutrients. pic.twitter.com/Qj2cP8isSW

While vegans seemed to love the idea of vegan milk being the new ‘Taste of India’...

Thank you @timesofindia for tweeting this.

The message is loud and clear!

More vegan milk please!

...There were some users who suggested Amul could probably start producing vegan milk in addition to cow milk considering the growing market for vegan food in India.

However, RS Sodhi, MD of Amul responded on the matter via Twitter.

He wrote, “Peta wants Amul to snatch livelihood of 100 mill poor farmers and handover it's all resources built in 75 years with farmers money to market genetically modified Soya of rich MNC at exhorbitant prices ,which average lower middle class can't afford.”

So, seems like Amul is also not on board and won’t be adhering to Peta’s request anytime soon.
