Prince William’s Desi Twist On Pizzas Has Us Asking, “Kya Kar Rahe Ho Bhai?”

Do you remember the first time you ate pizza?

Chances are, you won’t. Over the years, you may have developed a taste palate that’s unique to you. And the foodie’s favourite edible disc is one of those dishes which can truly give a lot away about the individual.

In recent times, there’s been an influx of different pizza brands coming to the fore in India, thanks to our booming food and beverage industry, and staking their claim to the pie. With these different brands, come sophisticatedly high levels of customisations available for the mass populi.

The point is that there’s just too many options at this point in my journey to order a pizza.

Olives, bell peppers, paneer, baingan? Pineapple??!

Oh god the horrors of indecision.

In a recent controversy, Padma Lakshmi  criticized an opinion piece by a British writer who had incorrectly assumed that all Indian cuisines are based on a ‘single spice’. Internet users from around the world came together with the former host to educate the misinformed Englishman.

Amidst all that nervousness and uncertainty, Express.co.uk has published a story about a certain British heir’s unexpected ‘desi’ take on the classic pizza.

Former Royal Chef Darren McGrady told Hello!, “I (made) pizza all the time for William. In my second cookbook, The Royal Chef at Home, there’s a chicken tikka masala pizza (recipe) because he loves Indian food.”

So far, so good. Chicken tikka masala pizzas exist over here too. Nothing extraordinary about it.

“He (Duke  William) enjoys it so much that a palace chef used to make the prince a pizza with curry topping.”

Now that is a revelation we don’t know how to feel about. Curry toppings sound interesting. A little messy for my personal liking. But it could be promising.

Although, I’m not sure we would like to try their take on the ‘curry’ pizza. In a public interaction with Sikh Sanjog, the Duke confessed to having a poor tolerance for spices, especially compared to the Duchess, Kate Middleton. “She likes a bit of spice, I’m not too good with it (spice).”

As tempting as it sounds… I’m going to give that option a hard pass. I am definitely not trusting this British royalty’s ‘pheeka’ curry version of the Indian curry anytime soon.

What do you think?

How bland do you think it might be?
