Company Puts Up Job Posting With Bizarre Requirement For Candidates & Desis Say ‘Kuch Bhi’

If you’ve ever scrolled through LinkedIn in a desperate attempt to find a job (we’ve all been there done that), you know how tedious it is.

Coming across the perfect job posting for a role that pays you well and meets your professional competencies is like finding a needle in the haystack.

However, sometimes, you find totally bizarre and outrageous job descriptions that make you either ROFL or confused.

A user on Reddit found something similar while scavenging through the job postings.

The company has posted an opportunity for a research role at a think tank (as mentioned by the user in the comments) which came with a very specific and unusual requirement for candidates. One of the pointers said that the candidate should have “high level of personal integrity and good family background.”

For people who have sat through a few interviews know that sometimes recruiters do ask questions about your family during the interaction. They ask about what your parents and siblings do, maybe to get a better idea of your social status, but is it really required?

It is probably a very common practice and a lot of interviewers ask about the candidate’s family background but mentioning it in the requirements is a bit too much. It sounds more like a matrimonial ad than a job posting.

Are they looking for a perfect match for their daughter?

Desis on Reddit were confused and pointed out that it seems like they are not looking for an employee but a son-in-law or daughter-in-law. Some said it is very common in the job market in India but no one is really sure why family background matters for someone working professionally in the company, unless it is a ‘bring your family to work’ day in office.

Here are some of the replies from the users who found the requirement completely bizarre and redundant.

“At this point finding life partner and finding job are the same skill set,” a user wrote.

Another said, “Are they looking for son-in-law by chance?”

One user wrote, “Please tell me they pay salary on par with FAANG... Otherwise they are just delusional idiots…”

What do you think about this weird requirement? Would you apply?
