After all the speculation and conjecture surrounding the appointment of team India's head coach, Ravi Shastri was finally confirmed as the new head honcho of the Indian cricket team on Tuesday.

After former coach Anil Kumble resigned, post India's ICC Champions Trophy final loss to Pakistan, following an ‘indefensible' relationship with Kohli; the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) started the selection process for a new coach. The confirmation came late on Tuesday night after the CoA pressed the BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendullkar and VVS Laxman, the urgent need to end the uncertainty over the next India coach. According to highly-placed PTI sources, former captain Ganguly had reservations about Shastri's appointment but was finally convinced by Tendulkar, who wanted the team's wish to be respected.

When social media got wind of it, it did exactly what it's out there to do, i.e. make fun of the entire situation. Given the camaraderie that Kohli shares with Shastri, many Internet users suggested that the appointment process could have been influenced by the skipper's preferences, and some have even compared Kohli to Sonia Gandhi and Shastri to Manmohan Singh.
