The 94th Academy Awards will go down in the history as one of the most criticised ceremonies for the way it handled the show flow, in general, and also one of the most controversial due to actor Will Smith losing his cool over Chris Rock’s joke on his wife and actress Jada Pinkett Smith and slapping him on stage.
Soon after the video clip of the incident went viral, many called out The Academy for not escorting Smith out of the ceremony who went on to win the Best Actor award to a standing ovation from the who’s who of the industry.

Now, The Academy has released a statement where it has been revealed that it did ask Will Smith to leave the Oscars ceremony immediately after the incident but the star refused.

The Academy also admitted that they could’ve handled the situation better and have initiated disciplinary action against the King Richard star.
The statement read, “While we would like to clarify that Mr Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also recognize we could have handled the situation differently. The Board of Governors today initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr Will Smith for violations of the Academy's Standards of Conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behaviour, and compromising the integrity of the Academy.
"Mr Smith is being provided at least 15 days' notice of a vote regarding his violations and sanctions, and the opportunity to be heard beforehand by means of a written response. At the next board meeting on April 18, the Academy may take any disciplinary action, which may include suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions permitted by the Bylaws and Standards of Conduct.”

Meanwhile, Jim Carrey shared his thoughts with CBS Mornings about the slap, “I was sickened. I was sickened by the standing ovation, felt like Hollywood is just spineless en masse. And it just - it really felt like, 'Oh, this is a really clear indication that we're not the cool club anymore.”

He added that he’d have sued Will Smith if he was at Chris Rock’s place, “I'd have announced this morning that I was suing Will for $200 million because that video was going to be there forever. It's going to be ubiquitous. You know, that insult is going to last a very long time. If you want to yell from the audience and disapprove or show a disapproval or say something on Twitter or whatever - you do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face because they said words.”

After suffering a disappointing loss in their opening encounter, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) notched up their first victory of the season with a narrow three-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the DY Patil Stadium.
It wasn’t ideal but a victory nonetheless, which helped the Faf du Plessis’ side collect two valuable points and get their campaign up and running. Their bowlers put up a brilliant show and it didn’t seem like the same attack that had failed to defend a massive 205 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS), just a couple of days back.

Having bowled KKR out for 128, the RCB, given the fire-power in their batting line-up, had hoped that they would easily get over the line but they were made to dig in deep by KKR bowlers’ brilliant fightback.
Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik played a crucial cameo against his former franchise and guided his team over the line, with four balls to spare. With seven required in the last over, the 36-year-old smashed a six and a four off the first two deliveries to finish off the game in style.
    View this post on Instagram
The RCB management has entrusted Karthik with a finisher’s role and the seasoned campaigner has delivered on those expectations in the first couple of matches.
Impressed with the Chennai-born’s finishing skills, the RCB skipper lavished praise on his star cricketer and even likened him to former CSK skipper MS Dhoni, who is arguably the world’s best finisher.
    View this post on Instagram
Dhoni is known for his cool and calm demeanour, even in crunch situations, and the former CSK opener feels Karthik has the same qualities in him. The former South Africa even went on to say that the 36-year-old is as close as one can get to Dhoni in terms of being ice cool.
“In an ideal world, we would've liked to have won more convincingly but a win is a win. DK's experience helped in the end, cool-calm, runs weren't never really too far away. DK is as close as it gets to MS Dhoni when it comes to being ice cool,” Du Plessis said at the post match presentation.

Through his performances both for India and CSK, Dhoni has attained a legendary status which is hard for anyone to match. Like most topics, even this caused a divided opinion on the internet, with some appreciating du Plessis’ analysis, others describing it as comparing “apples and oranges”.
People must understand that when someone compares a player to a legend like Dhoni, it doesn’t mean they are disrespecting the other. Instead of getting into unnecessary debate as to who is better, we all should enjoy their performance while they are here.

Mohammad Kaif may not be in association with any of the 10 cricket franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, but that did not stop him from backing Kuldeep Yadav and voicing the kind of mismanagement he faced whilst being a part of Kolkata Knight Riders till the 2021 season.
    View this post on Instagram
Kaif, the former India batter and an elite-level fielder, knows a thing or two about spotting talent. The 41-year old spent four seasons with the Delhi Capitals, and during his three-year spell between 2019 and 2021, he worked closely with some of the franchise's rising players. Despite the fact that he is no longer affiliated with the team or any other IPL organisation for that matter, Kaif recognises when a skill is underutilised.
He commented about one of Delhi Capitals' heroes of the evening, Kuldeep Yadav, as the team got off to a great start in IPL 2022 with a four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Delhi Capitals (@delhicapitals)
Rohit Sharma, Anmolpreet Singh, and Kieron Pollard were all dismissed by the left-arm wrist spinner in four overs. This is in stark contrast to last season when Kuldeep was relegated to the KKR's bench and did not appear in a single match.
Kaif questioned KKR's treatment of Kuldeep, claiming that given the way the franchise treated him, Kuldeep's bowling and form were likely to plummet.

    — Wisden India (@WisdenIndia) June 12, 2021
In a conversation with Sportskeeda, Kaif gave insight into whatever was going on in Yadav’s mind when he was struggling to get a spot within the KKR Playing XI on a daily basis over multiple years.
According to the now-retired cricketer, Kuldeep Yadav has a track record of winning matches. However, he is someone who must be well managed. He's a little emotional, and if he doesn't get the bowling or is dropped from the squad, he'll be upset. He was made to sit at home and not even in the team at KKR when Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan were captains. After Capitals’ first match of the season, even the fans agreed with what Kaif had to say and shamed KKR for not recognising Yadav’s greatness.
    View this post on Instagram
Even during IPL 2020, Kuldeep's time with KKR was restricted to just five games, during which he only took one wicket. The fact that KKR did not have faith in Kuldeep's ability was reflected in his performance in India. The chinaman spinner, who was once the backbone of India's spin department in limited-overs cricket and is the only Indian bowler to record two hat-tricks in ODIs, has gradually drifted out of contention for the national squad and even lost his annual BCCI contract.

Will Smith stunned the world when he slapped Chris Rock during the live broadcast of the 94th Academy Awards. The incident took place after Chris joked about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, looking like 'GI Jane 2' while hosting the Oscars 2022. Since Jada is diagnosed with alopecia (an autoimmune condition), Will got upset and stormed the stage, slapping Chris and warning him not to use his wife's name.

While the whole incident got a mixed response, the Gemini Man star took to social media and apologised for his behaviour in a long note. He wrote, "Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally".

    View this post on Instagram
A few days after the slapgate, Chris too has broken his silence and talked about the event during his comedy show in Boston recently. He didn't criticise Will Smith or make fun of him. He stated that he was still processing whatever occurred on that particular day.
He said, "How was your weekend? I don’t have a bunch of s**t about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend. I’m still kind of processing what happened. So, at some point I’ll talk about that s**t. And it will be serious and funny".
View this post on InstagramAfter Will's slap incident, the Academy too condemned it in a tweet stating that they don’t condone physical violence. Interestingly, Chris has decided to not press charges against Will for the slapping incident. Looks like both of them have solved the issues amicably after the event.

Before issuing an apology on Instagram, Will also said sorry to the Academy and his fellow nominees after receiving the Best Actor trophy for his portrayal of tennis coach Richard Williams, in King Richard.

During the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders, the Indian Test cricket veteran and former Indian Premier League (IPL) player, Ishant Sharma made an unusual appearance but the fans felt sorry looking at him.
Even though Dinesh Karthik smashed Andre Russell for a six and a four on back to back deliveries of the final over to win the RCB their first match of the 2022 season, the contest between the two sides remained close throughout the game and scoring proved to be too difficult for both sides to keep up with.

Having said that, one of the most conversation-worthy moments took place in the middle of the match when the cameraman turned the lens towards the big screen which was showing the ‘virtual guests’ and the former Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals pacer, Ishant Sharma could be seen sitting there, in front of a blank background, wearing a sponsorship shirt.
Clearly, the only reason why Sharma was one of the ‘virtual guests’ was nothing but to promote RuPay, the Indian payment network. However, to see one of the biggest icons of Indian bowling, and a very famous face within the IPL circuit until the 2019 season, fake-cheer a random team, left the fans with a bitter taste in their mouth.

Most of the reactions were that of shock followed by a sense of pity for the 6’5’’ athlete. People ended up calling it an “unreal decline” after the picture of him being a virtual guest went viral on the internet.

    — Nani Chowdhury (@Narendr45189710) March 31, 2022Ishant Sharma failed to get himself an IPL franchise to bid for him during the 2022 IPL mega auction. Contrary to other players who were struggling to find their way back into the highly lucrative and viewed T20 league in the world, who had established their base price at the minimum level of Rs. 50 lakh, Sharma had set his base price at Rs. 1.5 crore. As a result, all 10 franchises that were present at the venue were simply not interested and Sharma went unsold once again.
During his career as an active IPL player, Sharma has played a total of 93 matches, while having bowled 1997 legal deliveries while scalping 72 wickets.

Following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s win against Kolkata Knight Riders, skipper Faf du Plessis opened up about the Chennai Super Kings-related motivation that pushed him to defeat Shreyas Iyer’s team. However, the Protea’s confession led to CSK fans getting angry at their own franchise.
It was a low-scoring match, however, there was no shortage of tense situations and a feeling of unpredictability at the  DY Patil cricket ground when RCB’s stunning bowling line-up managed to limit Kolkata to a meagre 128 runs but then the Bengaluru top-order began to crumple like paper and everyone found themselves at the edge of their seats.
    View this post on Instagram
The newly appointed RCB skipper, Faf du Plessis also failed to make an impact on the scoreboard with his bat after he was dismissed for just five runs when Tim Southee forced an edge of the batter’s blade and the ball flew directly into the hands of Ajinkya Rahane, who was standing at backward point.
While Faf was the second to fall, RCB were found limping on one leg, especially after the scoreboard read 62/4. However, some sensible yet powerful hitting by Sherfane Rutherford and Shahbaz Ahmed followed by Dinesh Karthik’s unbeaten innings of a finisher allowed his team to sail past the score with four balls to spare.
    View this post on Instagram
Despite the early fall of wickets, du Plessis’ men felt charged up and dialled in during the final moments of the match but apparently, the motivation behind defeating the 2021 runners-up came from a rather unusual source.
After the match concluded and RCB won their first match of the 2022 edition, the skipper did not waste any time in suggesting that the only reason he wanted to beat Iyer and Co. was that he was “hurt” to see his former team, Chennai Super Kings lose to them in the season-opening match.
    View this post on Instagram
"I was hurt to see CSK losing against KKR. I told my boys we needed to do it for them and Kohli was pumped," the South African hitter said in the post-match interview.
Now the fans of CSK have started feeling a sense of resentment towards the Chennai team, especially for not bidding to bring back Faf to be a part of the team once again. After all, the batter recorded his best season in the history of the league back in 2021 when he struck 633 runs in 16 innings with a strike rate of 138.20.

    — SújiÈ (@FuzzieSuzzie) March 30, 2022He played a vital part in helping Dhoni win his fourth IPL title as the captain of the team. But most importantly, he was loyal to the squad and never wanted to be separated from the franchise.
    View this post on Instagram
Nonetheless, du Plessis’ innocent yet incredible reason for defeating KKR only made the CSK franchise look like a bunch of bad guys, especially after they were already facing a lot of flak for not buying Suresh Raina during the mega auction.
