The Indian Premier League (IPL) has changed the lives of many cricketers who participated in the world’s biggest T20 league in the last decade-and-a-half. In addition to filling up their coffers, the cash-rich league has also shaped the careers of several cricketers from across the globe.
While we always acknowledge the contribution these players have made in making this tournament a huge success, we often tend to ignore the hard work done by the people who toil hard behind the scenes to ensure that the tournament is more entertaining than before.

The next time you see your favourite batter smashing huge sixes, your favourite bowler swinging the white cherry, or your favourite fielder putting in a brilliant dive to crucial runs, just remember that all this wouldn’t have been possible without the heroic efforts of these individuals.
No, not the administrators, we are talking about the stadium ground staff whose efforts play a key role in ensuring the edge-of-the-seat excitement throughout the competition.

Most of the matches are played under artificial lights but the stadium ground staff work under harsh conditions with the Sun beating over their heads. While the players enjoy the five-star treatment, the groundstaff is left to fend for themselves.
To change all this, a private firm has come forward and decided to sponsor the entire ground staff which comes under the ambit of Mumbai Cricket Association, including the Wankhede Stadium for the whole cricketing season.

“All the facilities which are provided to the players at the five-star hotel will be provided to the groundsmen as well,” a MCA source was quoted as saying by TOI.

This news was further confirmed by the MCA secretary Sanjay Naik who told the leading English daily that the firm has created a “corpus” of around Rs 80 lakhs for the MCA groundstaff at three venues.

“They are treating the ground staff at par with players. They're giving them all the facilities during the IPL. All the groundsmen are happy. They've created a corpus also with a substantial amount,” MCA secretary Sanjay Naik told TOI.

Getting the same five-star treatment as the players for the first time in their lives, the members of the ground staff are obviously delighted for their hard work getting the recognition.

“We've never been treated so well before. It's rare to get this kind of honour and recognition for our services,” a member of the MCA groundstaff was quoted as saying in the same article.

Apart from ensuring their luxurious stay, the firm is also taking care of the Wankhede groundstaff’s commute to and from the stadium.

Not just that, during the season’s opening encounter between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all the groundsmen wore a designer uniform designed by renowned fashion designer Masaba Gupta, who is the daughter of West Indies legend Viv Richards and Bollywood actor Neena Gupta.
It’s heartening to see the groundstaff getting similar treatment as the players and we just hope that it’s not a one-off thing and extends to other parts of the country as well.

Hollywood star Will Smith stunned everyone when he recently slapped Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards' live broadcast.

Before presenting an award at the Oscars 2022, Chris joked about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, looking like ‘GI Jane 2’. This enraged Will Smith who stormed the stage, slapping Chris and warning him to keep his wife's name out of his 'f*cking mouth'.
Here is the very mild Chris Rock, GI Jane joke that got Will Smith (the fresh prince) so upset.

Well, turns out, the Oscars 2022 incident was not his first slap in public.
Back in 2012, during the premiere of Men In Black 3, the 53-year-old actor had raised his hand on a red carpet reporter who tried to kiss him on the cheek. Yes, you read that right! Later, the reporter turned out to be a prankster named Vitalii Sediuk.
Smith, enraged, drew away from the man, raising the back of his left hand and making contact with the reporter's chin. "Hey, man, what the hell is your problem?" Smith said as he walked away and added, "he tried to kiss me on my mouth". Watch the video below:

Back then, the actor described the encounter as 'just awkward'. While talking to David Letterman about the incident, he shared, "He says, 'I'm your biggest fan, can I have a hug?' So I go to give this joker a hug, and he tries to lean in and kiss me!"
Talking further about receiving a personal apology, he stated, "They were like, 'Oh, no, we're sorry, you know. It's just his shtick, you know.' I said, 'Well, that's why his a** got shtuck'".

Coming back to Smith's recent incident with Chris Rock, the Academy tweeted that they don’t condone physical violence. Also, reportedly, Rock has decided not to press assault charges on The Pursuit of Happyness star.

Ever since the release of Airlift in 2016, Akshay Kumar entered into the best phase of his career. Post the Raja Krishna Menon directorial, any and every film he was a part of turned out to be a box office success. And this was across genres. But it seems like his golden touch at the box office is slowly fading away.
It was the Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi that became the first post-pandemic hit in the Hindi film industry. However, the movie came with a lot of padding around it. It was a Rohit Shetty directorial which is a brand in itself, the film was a part of Singham Universe and also featured Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh.
However, his latest release Bachchhan Paandey, which was expected to set the box office on fire, was shouldered entirely on Akshay’s stardom and box office pull and was a masala entertainer, failed miserably at the box office.

The film recorded such poor collections upon its release that its lifetime numbers couldn’t even go past the Rs 50 crore mark.

Now, Akshay himself blamed The Kashmir Files' golden run at the box office for the dud response to his film but is that the whole truth? If a film featuring a superstar is up for a release, the initial is a given. Bachchhan Paandey didn’t interest the audience from day one itself.
The opening day of Bachchhan Paandey was shockingly lower than a much smaller film like The Kashmir Files’ day 8. Moreover, the audience completely ignored the film over the next two days as the collections dipped over the opening weekend.
Many on social media are debating whether the reason behind the huge failure of Bachchhan Paandey can be attributed to the 'overdose' of Akshay Kumar. Almost every month there is an Akshay Kumar starrer playing either in theatre or on OTT.
This indeed could’ve been the reason that people decided to give Bachchhan Paandey a miss as they knew he will come up with another film a month later. And now, if reports are to be believed, his Mission Cinderella is opting for Disney+ Hotstar release in April followed by Prithviraj releasing in June and Raksha Bandhan in August.
Bachchhan Paandey is now Akshay Kumar’s first flop since 2015’s Brothers. It is also his lowest-grossing film in a decade.

The last Akshay Kumar film to earn less than Bachchhan Paandey at the box office was the 2012 disaster Joker. The Shirish Kunder directorial had collected Rs 22.51 crore.

Having said that, there was also Bell Bottom that released last year in theatres and could earn only Rs 30.16 crore and flopped. But, let’s be real, it was a gamble by the makers to release it in theatres as most of the places had the cinema halls shut.

And at the places where the film was released, there was only 50 per cent occupancy allowed. So, to be fair to that film, it had a fractured release.

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is all set to embark on a new journey as the skipper of new IPL franchise Gujarat Titans.
The former Mumbai Indians star will begin the new chapter in his IPL career against another debutant Lucknow Super Giants, with his best friend KL Rahul leading their charge.
Many believe that the IPL 2022 could be a make or break for the all-rounder who has been out of action since last year’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.
After a disappointing campaign, the 28-year-old made himself unavailable for the next few international series and focussed on his complete rehabilitation.

Ahead of their opening encounter, the Ahmedabad-based outfit shared a video on their social media channels where Hardik can be seen addressing the franchise’s supporters and making some tall promises using huge adjectives.
Hardik has no prior experience of leading a side, be it in IPL or domestic cricket but he wishes to emulate the success of his “brother” MS Dhoni.

    — Gujarat Titans (@gujarat_titans) March 28, 2022
“That sweet lofty spot, where grit lives with the grind, labour leads to luck. It is a range that my brother (MS Dhoni) has scaled and I have made no attempts to hide that I want to emulate him. It’s a place that my hero (Sachin Tendulkar) has owned and told me stories of how he got there,” Hardik said in the video.
“It is a journey which will pit me sometimes against my sibling, my soulmate and many of my closest friends. And like every flight, this too may have turbulence. But hey, look at me. If I have survived being in a national storm, a ban, a gruelling back injury and more, I know what it takes,” he added.
    View this post on Instagram
The majority of the video shows the all-rounder harping about his own achievements in the IPL over the years. At one point, he even says that “I just know that when I walk in with a bat in my hand, my opponents get tiny little chills in their spine knowing that I can pull off a heist from anywhere.”
The fans obviously had mixed feelings about the video, with some terming his comments as confidence while others describing it as ‘overconfidence’ and ‘arrogance’. But according to Hardik, it’s his ‘confidence’ and ‘flamboyance’ nothing else.

Some fans summed this video as “cringe” which gets from bad to worse. “It’s a cringe which increases as the video passes,” wrote an unhappy user.
After watching Hardik’s performance in the video, a fan was convinced that the GT skipper had worked really hard during his time away from the field, not on his cricket but his acting skills.

    — Hit Man_45 (@elegant_45) March 28, 2022My opinion - I don’t expect everyone to be down to earth like Sachin,MS,Rohit but you need to score 6-7k runs before passing out messages like “chill in the spine for bowlers”.Being confident is good but this is just over the top.I hope Hardik has a good season for our WC next yr https://t.co/NYonkc9OnC
    — sharat (@sherry1111111) March 28, 2022Whether it’s Hardik’s confidence or arrogance, the picture will be clear at the end of the season.

There was a time when I would call myself ‘strongly opinionated'. Then came along social media and with it, a barrage of views and opinions that were suddenly all over the place. And these views weren’t just limited to topics of national interest but about anything and everything - from what a celebrity kid wears to even the latest releases at the box office.

And one such topic that has attracted way too much attention recently is the film ‘The Kashmir Files’, based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits back in the 1990s, which has stirred up a lot of sentiments among people around the country.

While a lot of people have resonated with the sentiment that filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri sought to put across, many others have shown dissent over what was portrayed in the film. One such person being a maulvi, whose video was recently shared by the filmmaker on his Twitter account.

pic.twitter.com/Xm2SZJuxU9
    — Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri (@vivekagnihotri) March 26, 2022
Agnihotri shared the video of the Maulvi as he wrote, “Maulvi Sahib of Rajouri says: “This film should be closed… Humne 800 saal tum pe hukumat ki you want to erase our mark in 70 years rule…”
@vivekagnihotri tumare ek ki wajah se ajj hindu muslim bhai alag ho rhae hai mai dua karta hu jo Sach hai wo pata chale tum sach me desh ko barbaad karoge @vivekagnihotri

    — awakening bhārata (@ancient_bharat) March 26, 2022This was then followed by Vivek Agnihotri talking about how ‘Kashmiri Hindus were erased from Kashmir.’ He said, “Friends, in the same way, the name and the existence of Kashmiri Hindus were erased from Kashmir.”
They claim they ruled us for 300 plus years , and it is a blatant lie. They did rule Delhi and other parts of India for a long time. Not Entire country. Thanks to #KashmirFiles, We as Hindus might just stand up for ourselves .

    — Ankur™ (@unapologeticAnk) March 26, 2022Several people jumped in on the thread to share their two cents on the matter, where most people sided with Agnihotri’s opinion. At the same time, actor Anupam Kher who played the role of Pushkar Nath in the film also slammed people who called the film ‘political propaganda’.
He said, “This film is being made political because ‘khisiyani billi khamba noche’ (an embarrassed person who tends to vent his/her feeling by quarrelling). If political patronage would have made any film successful, then the biopic of the Prime Minister would have done a business of Rs 1000 crore.”
Meanwhile, the film has already entered the Rs. 200 crore club and still going strong at the box office.
