The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) got underway on Saturday with an exciting clash between last year's finalists Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. The IPL governing council had decided that all the league stage matches of the IPL 2022 will be in Maharashtra due to the coronavirus pandemic.
There were reports that many franchises opposed this decision, saying that the five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians will have an unfair advantage of playing at home. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) convinced the franchises to carry on with the cash-rich league.
NEWS : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for #TATAIPL 2022 which will be held in Mumbai and Pune.
A total number of 70 league matches and 4 Playoff games will be played in the duration of 65 days.
More Details
— IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) March 6, 2022
The BCCI had announced four venues across Maharashtra -- Wankhede, Brabourne, DY Patil and MCA stadium -- to host the IPL 2022.
Ahead of Mumbai Indians' opening clash in the tournament, Rohit Sharma was asked about his views on other franchises opposing playing in Maharashtra.
Just savage as always @ImRo45 | #MIvDCpic.twitter.com/kAaYGE1Lxv
— ishant (@Ishant45_) March 27, 2022
Rohit, who is known for his witty answers in press conferences, came up with another savage reply. The Mumbai Indians skipper suggested other franchises to build 3-4 stadiums in their cities if they have problems with MI playing in Mumbai.
"Many franchises had said that Mumbai should not play in Mumbai. My view on this is that then they should build three or four stadiums in their cities," Rohit had said.
The boldness with which Rohit answered the question, did not go down with cricket fans as they took to Twitter to slam the Mumbai Indians captain, calling his remark absurd and insensitive.
I get he was trying to be funny but this is such an absurd & insensitive response https://t.co/NsjhQ8PLO3

— Venkat.. (@lazyguy_2020) March 27, 2022Whether the franchises were right or not about Mumbai Indians having home advantage will be decided after the end of the league phase but the way the five-time champions began their campaign, it doesn't feel like they will have much of home advantage.
MI were well ahead in the match till the 14th over as Delhi Capitals had lost six batters and they were still 75 runs behind the target. However, the bowlers missed their mark by some distance as Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav smashed Jasprit Bumrah and Daniel Sams all over the park to register a thrilling win.
WHAT. A. CHASE. @DelhiCapitals register their first victory of the season in style!
Scorecard - https://t.co/WRXqoHz83y #TATAIPL #DCvMI pic.twitter.com/prGmdPTAaN
— IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) March 27, 2022
While Rohit might have made that comment in a light-hearted way but fans were having none of it. They argued that being an India captain, he should be more careful with his words.
Hopefully, the Mumbai Indians skipper will learn his lesson and be a bit more selective with his choice of words when he faces the media next time.

Will Smith shocked everyone around the world when he walked up to Oscars presenter Chris Rock on stage and slapped him for cracking a joke on his wife and actress Jada Pinkett Smith.
Initially, most people thought the physical violence was scripted but soon it was made clear, it wasn’t.
While the world was in shock, Chris Rock found support from a lot of people on social media for handling the situation in a mature manner and keeping his calm.
While The Academy tweeted that they don’t condone physical violence, it was also reported that Rock has decided not to press assault charges on Smith.

On the other hand, Indian fans were on another trip altogether as the slap controversy reminded many of them about the verbal fight between filmmakers Ashutosh Gowariker and Sajid Khan at Screen Awards in 2009.
One fan wrote, “Gonna tell my kids that I witnesses Sajid Khan/ Ashutosh Gowariker feud, La La Land/ Moonlight mix up, Chris Rock/ Will Smith feud live”.
Another wrote, “When the whole Ashutosh Gowariker-Sajid Khan thing happened, I remember Farah Khan saying how Oscars me to 30 sec me stage se utar dete hai after speech. I really want her take on this. That's all.”
One comment read, “Ashutosh Gowariker and Sajid Khan did it almost 13 years before Will Smith and Chris Rock. And way better. Just saying.”
Check out some of the reactions below:

— Shreemi Verma (@shreemiverma) March 28, 2022For the unversed, back in 2009, during the Screen Awards, Ashutosh Gowariker won the Best Film Award for Jodha Akbar.
In his winning speech, he called out hosts of the evening Sajid Khan and Farah Khan for cracking jokes on the film industry and interrupting the speeches of award winners asking them to finish it off quickly.

While Farah wasn’t present at the stage at the time of Ashutosh winning the award, the Lagaan director got into a heated argument with Sajid and ended up asking him to “Shut Up”.
Later, Sajid hit back at Ashutosh stating he works for the audience and their entertainment and no one can ask him to shut up. Farah too joined Sajid on-stage after a while and explained her side of the story.
Watch the full controversy below:
Well, it was definitely a memorable night for Will Smith as he also won his first-ever Best Actor Oscar award for his performance in King Richard.

As has been the trend since 2012, the record IPL champions Mumbai Indians started yet another IPL campaign with a loss in their opening encounter. This time, their opponents were Rishab Pant-led Delhi Capitals and the match was played at the Brabourne Stadium.
View this post on Instagram
The Wankhede Stadium has been the preferred venue for the IPL and international matches in Mumbai. But this year, with the coronavirus pandemic in mind, the BCCI has chosen three other stadiums which are in close proximity to each other to host the IPL games.
The fans were already not happy with the BCCI for making IPL tickets extremely expensive this year. At most venues, the starting price is Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,000, which is burning a deep hole into fans’ pockets.
View this post on InstagramFor the second match of the season between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, the minimum ticket price was Rs 3,000. Given a local side was playing, the supporters still bought tickets and went to the stadiums hoping for an experience of a lifetime.
The facilities at the Brabourne stadium are nothing compared to Wankhede stadium but still, the fans had hoped that the organisers would make better arrangements. After all, they had paid Rs 3,000.
View this post on InstagramIt was a day game and the fans were made to sit on plastic chairs with the sun beating down on their head. It was not the experience they had signed up for and naturally, they were not pleased with the poor hospitality.
“Surely for 3K ticket prices, acche seats toh de dete (should have given better seats). WTF Brabourne?” tweeted an angry fan, while sharing a picture of plastic chairs in the stands. Several other fans also thrashed the BCCI for, in a way, cheating the spectators of their hard-earned money.

— Sanchit Desai (@sanchitd43) March 27, 2022Half of the stands don’t even have a roof, and not the forget the temperature can go up to 38°C. Since, the ground and the operations staff already knew that matches would be hosted here, a lot better could have been done.
— Prajakta (@18prajakta) March 27, 2022@BCCI @IPL @MumbaiCricAssoc @SGanguly99 @JayShah This is how you treat spectators with plastic chairs, hot sun for cost of 3000/2500 each. Kudos for ur money interest rather than people comfort. @mufaddal_vohra @CricCrazyJohns @vlp1994 @CoverDrivenFor4 @Cricprabhu pls RT https://t.co/XmXQ8IgMDY
— KrishnaTej (@WidishThirdMan) March 27, 2022A Chaadar on Ground would have been more better... Humare Paiso se Aish karenge aur hume aise treat karenge ye saare... #BoycottIPL
— Beauty Singh (@BeautyS08380049) March 27, 2022Unlike most stadiums in the country, the Brabourne Stadium is not owned by the Indian cricket board, hence its development is not its responsibility. Having said that, the Indian board can’t use it as an excuse.
The BCCI is using this venue for the 15th edition of IPL, hence it was their responsibility to make better arrangements. The supporters are excited to be back in the stands but incidents like these are definitely not doing the organisers any good.
Here’s hoping that the BCCI learns from its mistake and makes better arrangements going forward.

The Kashmir Files, written and produced by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, has become the talk of the town ever since its release on March 11.
The film has been performing exceptionally well at the box office despite a slew of controversies.
Amid huge critical acclaim, the film recently made headlines when Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal slammed it during the State Assembly.
CM @ArvindKejriwal to BJP:#TheKashmirFiles जैसी झूठी Picture के Poster लगाते हुए अच्छे नहीं लगते, शोभा नहीं देता.. pic.twitter.com/F25DddaZlH
— AAP (@AamAadmiParty) March 24, 2022
While calling out the BJP for demanding that The Kashmir Files be made tax-free in Delhi, he shared that it is a "jhoothi film" and said, "They are saying make The Kashmir Files tax free. Well, put it on YouTube it will be free".
Now, in a new interview, veteran actor Anupam Kher has criticised Kejriwal over his 'crude, insensitive' remarks on The Kashmir Files.
Talking to Times Now, the actor said, "He was crude, insensitive and he didn't think about the lakhs of Kashmir Hindus who were thrown out of their own homes, the women raped and people murdered. The people behind him were laughing and it was shameless. That was also happening in the state assembly".
Sharing his thoughts about the Delhi CM's statement on his film, Kher said, "If he wants to have a political problem with the Prime Minister or the BJP, he should have just spoken about that. But to bring in Kashmir Files which the people are accepting, feeling guilty, and saying 'We didn't know this happened to us'...to say that it is a propaganda film or it is a lie I think it was shameful".
While the politician is not making The Kashmir Files tax-free in the capital, he had made Ranveer Singh's sports drama 83 tax-free. Talking about the same, Kher added, "He has not seen the film. It's not that he hasn't made films tax-free. Recently, he made 83 tax-free. He does believe that a film that is good should be made. But this film has gone beyond tax-free, it's a movement".
The actor concluded, "To rub salt on wounds of people who have suffered for the last 32 years is unbecoming of a chief minister. He was playing to the gallery, he was trying to do a stand-up comedian's job over there... He should not come across as a caricature, he is a real person, he is an educated person, he is an IRS officer. Ek anpadh gawaar aadmi bhi aisi baat nahi karta hai (An uneducated person also doesn't talk like this). It was not done".
For the unversed, The Kashmir Files tells the story of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990 during the Kashmir Insurgency. Besides Kher, the film also features Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, and Mithun Chakraborty in important roles.

For the first time in the history of Oscars, The Academy announced two popular awards namely, Fan-Favourite Film and Most Cheer-Worthy Moment. And the winners of the two awards were to be decided via voting on Twitter.
As soon as the awards were announced, it was assumed by a majority of people on social media that at least one of these belong to Spider-Man: No Way Home considering the movie brought together the three different versions of Spider-Man and also the fact that it’s a pretty entertaining film.
However, all those fans were in for a shock when Zack Snyder won both the popular choice awards with his two films - the controversial and troubled Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Netflix’s Army of the Dead.
© Marvel Studios
In the Most Cheer-Worthy Moments category, MCU was at second and third spots. Check out the top five list below:
1. The Flash Enters the Speed Force, Zack Snyder's Justice League
2. The Three Spider-Men Unite, Spider-Man: No Way Home
3. Avengers Assemble to Fight Thanos, Avengers: Endgame
4. And I'm Telling You", Dreamgirls
5. Neo Dodges Bullets, The Matrix
No points in guessing, Snyder fans are over the moon while MCU fans are in shock!
Reacting to Spider-Man: No Way Home losing, one fan wrote, “Second…? I’m sorry… second? I don’t even remember many other exciting moments. How did this film not get the love it deserves? #SpiderManNoWayHome”.
Another wrote, “this is a joke! HOW ON EARTH WOULD NO WAY HOME LOSE TO CINDERELLA AND MINAMATA (whatever that is).”

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) embarked on a new journey under the leadership of former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis. The team got off to the best possible start with the bat after being sent in by Punjab Kings captain Mayank Agarwal in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign opener.
However, old problems came back to haunt the Bangalore-based franchise as they failed to defend a score in excess of 200. It was a high-scoring encounter at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai where Punjab Kings emerged victorious. Chasing 206 for the win, Punjab got over the line with an over to spare.

— IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) March 27, 2022 RCB bowlers, just like the past seasons, looked toothless on a wicket that was a paradise for the batters. They lacked variations and a few hiccups in the field also didn't help their cause as they began their campaign with a five-wicket loss.
RCB have never won an IPL trophy and with a change in guard at the helm after Virat Kohli stepped down as the captain, the fans were expecting some fresh ideas and a change in fortune but they were once again left disappointed.

Fans expressed their feelings by slamming the franchise for not having a clear game plan and repeating old mistakes from the previous seasons which have cost them dearly.

However, with Mohammed Siraj having an off day, RCB lacked a death bowler who could curb the runs against the big hitters like Odean Smith and Shahrukh Khan.

— Shikhar Dhawan (@SDhawan25) March 27, 2022 Smith and Khan put on an unbeaten 52-run stand for the sixth wicket off just 25 deliveries to take their side home. RCB will have to rethink their strategies when they face Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday (March 30).

The Oscars are always full of drama! And this time around, it wasn't any different.
As things go by, Will Smith was the star of the show at the prestigious awards ceremony, and let's just say, it was both for the right as well as the wrong reasons.
The Bad Boys actor had been sitting in the audience alongside his wife Jada Pinkett Smith as he enjoyed the show, until American stand-up comedian and actor Chris Rock made a joke about his wife.
Rock, who was presenting the best documentary prize with a short comedy routine, had resorted to cracking a joke comparing Jada Pinkett Smith's tightly cropped hair to G.I. Jane, a film where Hollywood actress Demi Moore went bald, by suggesting that Jada appears in the sequel of the film.
Now, while these kinds of jokes are usually taken with a pinch of salt when it comes to comedy, it looked like Will Smith wanted to change the historic trend.
The Men In Black actor suddenly stormed onto the stage, went up to Rock, and slapped him, before returning to his seat alongside Jada.

Can't believe what I just saw live on screen pic.twitter.com/YiijPRQENt
— Guy Springthorpe (the pistol slug) (@GuySpringthorpe) March 28, 2022
As you'd imagine, the whole crowd filled with Hollywood's biggest personalities were shocked at the sight of what happened and were probably scratching their hands wondering whether it was real or scripted.
However, it sure looked to be something that wasn't planned beforehand. A flustered Will could be seen sitting on his seat and shouting to Rock repeatedly, "Keep my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth".
This even forced the show's producers to bleep out several seconds of audio from the televised broadcast in the US.
It is reported that Jada Pinkett Smith, currently suffers from alopecia, which leads to hair loss, and the actress publicly revealed her diagnosis back in 2018.

Not only that, Will then later proceeded to win the Oscars 2022 Best Actor award for his role in King Richard.
The actor got very emotional while accepting the award and needed to be "pulled aside and comforted" by actors Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry during a commercial break.
Will then proceeded to apologize to the Academy and his fellow stars.
“I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people. Tim and Trevor and Zack and Saniyya and Demi and Aunjanue and the entire cast and crew of ‘King Richard,’ Venus and Serena, the entire Williams family. Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams,” Smith said in his tearful acceptance speech.
