The tale of the struggling bollywood actor is one everybody’s familiar with. A seemingly ordinary person with dreams of being on the silver screen abandons the path frequently tread, instead choosing the way less taken. A move to Mumbai soon follows, where the struggling talent fails to make ends meet, and more often than not gets caught in the horrid underbelly of the entertainment industry. Not many make it out of this rut. Many abandon their dreams midway because reality becomes far too difficult to bear. A few find roles that keep the ball rolling, till bigger things come their way.

The Bollywood entertainment industry thrives on attention, truly sustaining in the belief that any publicity is good publicity. As witnessed by the meteoric rise of the Bollywood actor, Sonu Sood.
A Simple Start Sonu Sood’s youth was spent in Nagpur, even though his family hails from Moga, Punjab. His mother was a professor while his father ran a garment shop. Although he did his degree in electrical engineering from Nagpur, his heart was set on becoming an actor.

But it was more difficult than he had anticipated.
In a past interaction with IANS he had recalled his difficulties in getting work,"I thought that if I roamed around in Film City, a director or a producer would spot me and cast me in their project, which never happened. It is only because of my parents' blessings that I am here now.”
Surviving in Mumbai wasn't easy for him, his youngest sister Malvika Sood Sachar disclosed to The Indian Express, "When my brother was an engineering student in Nagpur, he would travel back home sleeping on the floor in vacant small spaces near toilets in the train compartments. Our father would send him money, but he would just try to save whatever he could. He always valued our father’s hard work.”
Breakthrough RoleSonu Sood has been a consistent performer. Even though his 2002 debut Shaheed-E-Azam may not have managed to leave an impression, his performance as Abhishek Bachchan’s younger brother in Mani Ratnam’s Yuva definitely did.
He played a slew of minor roles in several movies like Jodhaa Akbar and Ek Niranjan. But it was with the 2010 blockbuster Dabangg, starring Salman Khan where he truly gained widespread recognition. His role as the antagonist, Chedi Singh served as a worthy foil to Salman’s effervescent Chulbul Pandey.

The sky was truly the limit for Sonu Sood after his stint in the limelight, having acted in several big ticket films like R… Rajkumar, Shootout At Wadala, Happy New Year and Simmba to varying reception. More importantly, he had finally found stability in the industry.

Covid Heroics Despite being an established name in the industry, Sonu was still distant from the adulation that other actors enjoyed.
    That changed in 2020.
At a time when Bollywood was being attacked from all sides (Sushant Singh Rajput suicide, Rhea Chakraborty fiasco), and the world had been brought to a standstill by the pandemic, a new crisis had emerged.
Migrant labourers were about to face one of the largest humanitarian crises in recent history, and most of the world stood frozen by the inept way it had been handled by the powers that be.
Bollywood’s name had been tarnished by accusations of nepotism, with everyone from Alia Bhatt to Karan Johar having their characters assassinated on primetime television.
Enter, Sonu Sood. Unencumbered by any accusations of nepotism,  since he had made his name with blood, sweat and tears, Sonu took to the streets to provide on-ground relief to the migrants. Doing things that the elected representatives had been falling short of.
    View this post on Instagram
In an interview with The Indian Express, Sonu Sood’s youngest sister revealed, “When he was struggling to begin his modelling career in Mumbai, he lived in rooms where there wasn’t even an inch of space to toss and turn while sleeping. He would have to stand up to turn sides…there was no space. Maybe that’s why now he can understand the pain of migrants, that longing and helplessness to just reach home."

His journey to the top of the industry may not have been easy, and in fact it may still be considered a work in progress, however his Covid heroics, where he actively helped provide relief to countless migrant workers, has made him the aam junta’s messiah. And it is this achievement that shines brightest in his legacy within the entertainment industry.

Dating apps are equally fun and exhausting. While there are people who met the one and swiped right for life, there are some who are still scavenging apps for true love (or hook-ups) which feels like searching for a needle in the haystack.

    © iStock
Whether or not you end up finding what you are looking for, you do meet some crazy people on these apps. I won’t lie, while I have dated a couple of guys and met some really good friends (things don’t always work out romantically), I have blocked some super weird guys too. The spectrum of personalities you come across on online dating platforms is that broad.

    © T-series
To give you a quick glimpse of the world, here are 10 types of dudes that every woman has met on dating apps. If you have not met them, you are probably one of them.

    © iStock
    1. The Gym FreakOne look at their profile and you know your first date would be an intense physical activity (not the one you were hoping for) like hiking or a bike ride. His photos mostly feature gym selfies with his naked torso that show off his six-pack abs.
    2. Here For The ‘GramThe guy who’s there to connect on Instagram and increase his followers. You never hear from him again after you add him on Insta and end up deleting him after a while.
    3. Mr. RightHe has a funny bio, nice photos and seems genuine when you talk to him. What’s the catch? Well, he might be the one or you may find out he is catfishing. It can be either of the two. Guess, you will only find out on the date.
    © iStock
    4. The ‘D*ck’Why I have a certain name for this category is because either their profile has a d*ck pic or they would send you one after you’ve matched.
    5. The ClingHe would seem okayish but as you keep on chatting, you realise he is a total creep. He will bombard you with “Hey dear.” “Why you no reply me?” “Good morning” “U der?” And, that’s exactly your cue to unmatch.
    6. The TravellerHis profile looks like a catalogue for holiday destinations and he would boast about his travel bucket list that he wants to tick off.
    © iStock
    7. The Family GuyHe would have photos with friends and family and at first it would be hard to make out who among the clan is the owner of the profile.
    8. The HollowHis profile would be as empty as your life. He'll have one blurred selfie or a photo of a guitar. You will find nothing except his name and would most probably think if he’s a secret agent of RAW.
    9. The Pet Dad He would have pictures with his dog/cat/parrot/tortoise and would come across as a caring person. Damn, we always fall for such guys.
    © iStock
    10. The ‘Shashi Tharoor’He uses big, fancy (scary sometimes) words out of the Oxford dictionary in his bio but when you talk to him, he is either exceptionally basic or says things like “I didn’t knew you are passed away from my school.”

How many times has it happened that you’ve felt everything is going right between you and your potential date, from the chemistry to the interest, but then suddenly as things move up from texts  to calls or even in-person conversations, you find things collapsing sooner than a teenager cumming for the first time.
Suddenly all that sexual tension that was driving you two closer has vanished into thin air and you are left with nothing but doubts as to what actually went wrong, that too, this early in a romantic pursuit.
    © giphy
You see, in most cases when things end before they even start, the reason is almost always a habit or two that would have either come as a red flag or simply off-putting to the point that the person wouldn’t want to take things forward. And believe it or not, most of these habits can be noticed during your early conversations with a potential love interest.

And so, to make sure you don’t scare off your crush so early on, here are a few habits that might be sabotaging your chance at a relationship -
    1) Not Listening
    © iStock
A rookie mistake, yet one that everyone ends up making is to always try to speak and never listen. It may look rather easy and indulgent in theory but when it comes down to actually practicing listening, not many can do it. And that becomes one of the major reasons for people to split up, because they don’t feel heard.

Hence, try to make an effort to listen to what the other person has to say, the same way they try to hear you out when you’re speaking. It’s bound to go a long way.
    2) One-Upping
    © Eros International
This is when a person is narrating a story or an incident and you, having recalled one of your own, jump in to start sharing yours without letting the other person finish. Classic jerk move, TBH.

It’s extremely annoying and doesn’t only put off a person but also makes you come across as rather self-contained. Now, we wouldn’t want that, would we? Best to hold on to your story until after the other one finishes or best, until someone actually asks you for it.
    3) Constantly Interjecting
    © iStock
Nothing gets on anyone’s nerves more than a guy who constantly interrupts them while speaking. Whether it is to correct them, cite an anecdote, share your two cents or to even ask a question, WAIT.

No one likes to be cut short in the middle of a sentence, most of all the person you’re showing a romantic interest in. Hold your horses and just let the other person speak.
    4) Acting Distracted
    © iStock
Another habit to steer clear of during conversations is to act distracted the moment it is the other person’s chance to speak. It is highly disrespectful to expect someone to offer you all of their attention, while you are busy scrolling through your IG feed or petting your dog when your chance to sit and listen comes.

Don’t be that guy, don’t zone out.
    5) Changing The Topic Suddenly
    © iStock
Unless something drastic and life-changing has happened in real-time that you can’t not discuss with your potential love interest, don’t ever be quick to switch the topic of conversation, especially right after they have shared something important to them.

Give a conversation enough time and attention to not make the other person feel that you were listening only for it to get over with fast. Make the transition slow and don’t haste, lest you want to come across as someone who doesn’t care enough.

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are one of the most loved and popular on-screen couples of Bollywood and they have worked together in films for over 25 years now. However, do you have any idea how Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol met for the first time?

In an interview, SRK and Kajol recalled how their first ever meeting went, which took place on the sets of the film Baazigar on January 1st. They also recalled how they were complaining about each other to the make-up dada.
While SRK had partied the night before, he felt Kajol was too loud and she thought that SRK was a ‘Khadoos’ as he continued reading his script.
SRK told ABP News that he believes in beginning work on the first day of the year as he thinks that he will keep getting work for the next 12 months as well. He said,"I feel the person who works on January 1 will continue working through the year. I belong to the working class, I need work constantly."
    View this post on Instagram
Kajol said, "I don't drink.” She also said that she gets it that people usually would want to go out and party on December 31. She said, "I arrived on set in the morning, and I was very energetic."
Shah Rukh Khan interjected and said that she is the very loud on set and also called her a peacock.
He further added, “The rest of us were very tired; our cameraman had been arrested because he didn't have a license. And the only noise (was Kajol)."

He also said he remembered that he asked the makeup man, "What kind of an actress is she, can't she be quiet for some time?" And at the same time, Kajol was telling the same man that SRK is a total grump.
She said, "For two hours he's been sitting and reading his script, not talking to anyone, what a grump."

It’s undeniable that the content of Indian TV shows is deteriorating and how. We have been dealing with shows like Naagin that have no value attached besides entertainment. Back in the late 80s and 90s, however, our TV shows were really progressive. Case in point, Mandira Bedi’s Shanti. Cut to the 21st century, Indian TV is struggling with the lack of original content and we are circling around stories about a cunning mother-in-law and a naive and sweet bahu.
Ratna Pathak Shah who is known for being outspoken, recently spoke about how the small screen saw a drastic shift from progressive stories to the sudden emergence of 'parampara'.
    View this post on Instagram
She said, “It was during the early 2000s that the phase of horrible saas-bahu dramas began, with all their regressive ideas–stuff that we have spent years trying to dump out of the country. If you see, in the late ’90s and early 2000s, you can see the intention to create ‘parampara‘ in society all over again. The importance of caste was reinforced and communal relationships were looked down upon. This should have no space in the 21st century. So, how can you not be a political person?”
    View this post on Instagram
Shah added, “If you are making something that is consumed by millions in the country, how is that act not a political one? What choice do you have? How can you only be an artist? I feel all art is political. The job of art is to disturb society, question things, to make people think. Of course, we are not doing that now; that’s another story.”
Her words make sense and we completely agree with her.
The actor also said that creative people should be free to push out content through different mediums. “With the advent of OTT, suddenly we are being looked at very carefully, people are self-censoring in a way I didn’t think was possible. Sometimes I wonder whether I am in Islamic Iran or modern India. What kind of a society are we creating? It is really scary stuff that is happening around us; if we don’t talk about it and if we don’t speak up against it, we are not doing our job,” Shah added.

Portable gaming consoles are becoming the next big thing, thanks to Nintendo’s Switch and Valve launching the Steam Deck later this year. However, for mobile gamers, there weren’t many options apart from accessories that mimic the Nintendo Switch’s design. Now, a company called GPD will be making a gaming console for mobile gamers that runs on Android.
    © GPD
XDA Developers discovered an Android-based portable gaming device made by GamePad Digital (GPD) Technology Co. which is being dubbed as GDP-XP. The device’s image was shared on the company’s official Discord server and it looks very similar to the Nintendo Switch’s design. The device will let users play high-end mobile games.

    © Discord GPD
The GPD-XP is expected to have a 6.81-inch display and a punch-hole camera for some reason. It follows a periscope-controller design that slots into the display of the device. The button configuration is also quite similar to the Nintendo Switch as it comes with analog sticks, a D-Pad, dedicated buttons for navigation and face buttons for playing games.

    © Discord GPD
It seems like the device will support multiple accessories that can be attached magnetically. One accessory has the traditional ABXY buttons while the other has four face buttons that can be used in MOBA games. These buttons can also be mapped to particular areas of the display for specific actions. This will be helpful in competitive games such as BGMI and Call of Duty Mobile.

    GPD-XP Specifications  © Discord GPD
The GPD-XP is rumoured to pack an ARM-based mobile processor that will be paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Since the device will be used for mobile gaming, it could be the reason why It doesn’t have higher storage variants. However, users will be able to expand storage via the microSD slot. The device will also have 4G connectivity that can be used for making calls and for instant messaging.

The GPD-XP is expected to run Android 11 and have Google services according to XDA.
Price and Availability The GPD-XP does not have a confirmed release date yet and how much it will cost. However, we do know that the Android-based console is not too far from launch. Whether it would launch in India or not is another question that remains unanswered. Having said that, the GPD-XP is not the only handheld Android gaming console in development right now as Qualcomm is working on a similar product as well.

Ever since the country caught the Indian Idol fever, almost everyone has been glued to their TV screens watching season 12 of the superhit music reality show unfold.
Well, the latest season of the show that premiered in November 2020, finally came to an end as Uttarakhand's Pawandeep Rajan lifted the winner's trophy.
    © Sony
The 25-year-old participated in what was the grandest of grand finales ever on Sunday (August 15), running from 12 pm to 12 am along with the other top six finalists, before taking home the trophy along with a car and Rs 25 lakh cash prize.

Now, while Pawandeep won the big prize along with the hearts of the judges as well as fans all over the country, there have been many Indian Idol contestants in the past who could not reach the very same heights.
However, despite being eliminated or not even being considered worthy of the show, these contestants proved their doubters wrong and achieved stardom on their own.
    1. Jubin Nautiyal © Instagram/Jubin Nautiyal
The stunning voice behind Kabir Singh's Tujhe Kitna Chahein Aur Hum, Bajrangi Bhaijaan's Zindagi Kuch Toh Bata, and many other hit songs, Jubin Nautiyal is one hell of a talented singer.

However, did you know that the artist was once not considered good enough for Indian Idol?
Jubin had auditioned for the hit show and got through to the stage of meeting the judges only to then be rejected by Sonu Nigam.

But despite the rejection, the artist met with AR Rahman, who advised him to finish his musical studies and then return to singing for Bollywood. Later, Jubin entered X-Factor before reaching the top 25 and later, making a big name for himself in the Bollywood music industry. You just can't keep a winner down.
    2. Kapil Sharma © Instagram/Kapil Sharma
Now, almost all the Comedy Nights With Kapil fans are well versed with the fact that apart from hosting the hilarious super hit show, Kapil has a knack for singing. But a lot of you would not know that the comedian actually took part in Indian Idol before making a big name for himself on his comedy show.

The 40-year-old Amritsar-born artist himself revealed that he once auditioned for the music reality show but was rejected in a separate audition round, where one gets to know whether they can perform in front of the actual judges or not. Well, while we are obviously sad to see the comedy king not come upon Indian Idol screens, it's fair to say that Kapil hasn't done badly since.
    3. Vishal Mishra © Instagram/Vishal Mishra
The immensely talented music composer has been endeared by the public for his many commercially hit songs, with Kabir Singh's 'Kaise Hua' at the absolute top.
However, before his glory days, Vishal was, too, rejected from Indian Idol. Not once, but twice.
First during season 4 and then not even to the subsequent rounds of season 6.

That could be truly disheartening for any singer, to go through all of that, but this is what musicians thrive on. Most never truly go down without a fight and neither did Vishal, who later on went on to make songs that we are all accustomed to hearing every day now.
    4. Asees Kaur © Instagram/Asees Kaur
The talented singer is now the voice of so many hit songs from movies like Kapoor & Sons and now the recently released Shershaah. However, her pursuit of her career was definitely not smooth.

The 32-year-old singer was rejected from Indian Idol while auditioning for the sixth season of the show. However, like many others before her, she refused to give up and is now carving a name for herself in the Indian music industry.
    5. Neha Kakkar © Instagram/Neha Kakkar
Could you have ever seen this one coming? We mean, she's literally the queen of judging reality shows now, for some good and for some hilarious reasons. (Crying memes)

    © YouTube
However, before becoming such a successful singer and reality show judge, Neha had participated in the second season of Indian Idol. But her journey was cut short quite early in the show, with judge Anu Malik even stating that her voice made him want to "slap himself".

Well, how the tables have turned and she is not only one of the most successful singers in the country, but also a judge on the very same show.
    6. Raghu Ram © Instagram/Raghu Ram
Let's admit it. While it's surely hard to imagine Raghu Ram as a singer in Bollywood, he was certainly spectacular as the creator and judge of MTV reality show Roadies. The show was absolutely on a different level under him, and it is fair to say that it has lost its charm since his departure.

Anyway, before starting the popular adventure show, Raghu had gone on to present himself to the country as an aspiring singer on the very first season of Indian Idol.
However, his performances left Anu Malik, Farah Khan, and Sonu Nigam unimpressed, a tone which he would later go on to take up on his reality shows, where he'd bash contestants left, right, and center.

Well, weirdly enough, his on-show persona worked for him really well and was an integral part in making Roadies so popular. Raghu even went on to work in a Farah Khan film along with a few others, cementing the fact that a reality show, no matter how popular it is, does not, I repeat, does not define your fate as a successful artist.

Sunil Gavaskar leaves nothing to imagination in calling out the captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli, for essentially being more of a liability during the first two Tests against the hosting England side, than an asset, the world expects him to be.
At the end of match time on Day 4 of the Lord’s Test in London, Gavaskar once again showed his protest against the way Kohli has been playing in the recent past. He spoke about the 20 runs the skipper added to his team’s cause in the second innings, which included four boundaries before he lost his wicket on the 31st delivery he faced, against Sam Curran.
View this post on InstagramMoreover, it was the way in which Kohli was once again dismissed for unnecessarily playing way away from the off stump, which irked the batting legend.
"That method has been successful for him. He has got 8000 Test runs with that back and across movement. But he is playing at deliveries way outside off stump and a little too early in the innings. This time around, the foot is somewhere else, the bat is somewhere else, which means that he hasn’t really played well. It could be about this much-talked-about word intent but in a five-day game, every batsman goes in to score runs. It’s the method that differs," Gavaskar said on the Sony Sports Network.
View this post on InstagramFor the three times that Kohli has batted in the series so far, he has been dismissed this way every single time. In the first innings of the Trent Bridge series, it was James Anderson who got a thick outer edge off Kohli’s bat for a caught behind. In the first innings of the second Test, another outer edge shot led to the ball flying into the hands of Joe Root at first slip. And on Day 4 again, he gave away his wicket on a caught behind for the very same mistake.
"When you talk about this 'trying to take this attack to the opposition' approach, and if that is what intent is, it can get you into trouble like we saw. I think every batsman should be left alone to find his own method. This is a Test match. In ODI and T20I, it’s a completely different situation, but over here, what they need to look into is get themselves in and try to play in the old-fashioned V. Play only when you have fought through," Gavaskar added.
View this post on InstagramAhead of Day 5 of Test 2, India are at 181/6 with a 154-run lead with Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma on strike.
