SRK’s Home Is A Landmark In Mumbai Now But Did You Who Owned ‘Mannat’ Before Him?

If you’re ever on a touristy journey in the city of dreams aka Mumbai, it is highly likely that you will someday find yourself outside the most important landmark besides the Gateway Of India, i.e. Mannat, an oddly huge building which is the residence of one of the biggest superstars in the world and the heartthrob of billions, Shahrukh Khan. The Rs 200 crore property has been home to the Khans for over 16 years and while the interiors are gorgeously taken care of by his celebrity interior designer wife Gauri Khan, there is another interesting story to the tale of how he chose and managed to buy the property in the first place.

Around 1997, while shooting for Yes Boss, SRK set his eyes on this sea-facing Bandra property. By 2001, he managed to get acquainted with the original owner and convince him into selling this piece of wonderful land at a prime location. The house was owned by Gujarati businessman Nariman Dubash and his home was called ‘Villa Vienna’. After he sold the property for a reported Rs 13.32 crore (approx) to SRK, the house was quickly reconstructed for the superstar’s family to move into.

Srk is a living proof that ' dreams do come true.’ The young lad from Delhi who moved to Mumbai to make a mark in the film industry, ended up becoming the biggest star one would know of, not just in India, but globally as well. If one had to dissect the reason why he probably named his house Mannat, one could safely presume that he literally manifested this dream into reality, with his own hard work of course.

In fact , in one of his interviews also, he mentioned how he felt about a house in a city which is crowded with only apartments. “I am from Delhi and Delhiites have the concept of living in a kothi (bungalow). In Mumbai, the concept is to live in apartments, but in Delhi, even if one is not well off, they still own a small bungalow. When I came to Mumbai, I was already married and was living in a small apartment with my wife Gauri. My mother-in-law would keep saying, 'You live in such a small house.' Eventually, when I saw Mannat, it felt like Delhi wala kothi and so I bought it and that was the most expensive thing I bought”, he quipped.

The star and his family are currently breathing a sigh of relief after his son, Aryan Khan returned home from Arthur Road jail. He was involved in a drug scandal and was arrested by the NCB on 2nd October onboard a cruise ship.
