‘That Day I Realised I Can’t Act’, When Vicky Kaushal Was Rejected For A Sports Biopic

Actor Vicky Kaushal is one of the biggest stars in Bollywood and is a bankable name when it comes to doing experimental movies. From Bhoot to Uri to even Manmarziyaan, Vicky has proved his mettle proving he is a director’s actor and can own up a genre when given a chance. The best part of his journey is that even though he is the son of a successful action director, the ‘nepotism’ tag didn’t really apply to him as his own struggle has defined the wonderful journey of success for him.

However, his journey has its own speed breakers. In an old interview, Vicky Kaushal spoke about how he once auditioned for a big budget sports biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, which was being helmed by Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra and eventually got rejected. “It was not for the lead role but for his friend. It was edited out eventually. Harneet Trehan was the casting director and he is one of the sweetest fellows in the industry. He took out 3 hours for me. He called me to his office and we were trying to crack a scene. That day I realised I can’t act.”

He mentioned he had no hard feelings about it and that it was a learning lesson for him. Imagine how the movie would have looked like if it was Vicky instead of Farhan Akhtar. It is hard to imagine because Farhan’s performance was par excellence and we love both the actors for what they do. Guess all’s well that ends well, right?
