Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest directorial Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt has had a good opening weekend in India as it collected Rs 39.12 crore over the first three days of its release. 

The film faced tough competition from Telugu film Bheemla Nayak starring “Power Star” Pawan Kalyan and Tamil film Valimai starring “Thala” Ajith. 

The two films have scored well over the weekend with Bheemla Nayak also starring Rana Daggubati earning Rs 78 crore while Valimai collecting Rs 73 crore.

However, the overseas box office is a different story altogether. 

In Australia, Alia Bhatt proved to be a bigger box office draw than Pawan Kalyan, Rana Daggubati and Ajith and the same was the case in the UK. 

According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, Gangubai Kathiawadi collected Rs 2.05 crore over the weekend in Australia followed by Bheemla Nayak (Rs 1.58 crore) & Valimai (Rs 97.47 lakhs).

In the UK, the Alia Bhatt starrer made Rs 2.26 crore whereas Pawan Kalyan starrer collected Rs 1.39 crore & Ajith starrer earned Rs 1.14 crore. 

In the US though, it is Pawan Kalyan who is ruling the roost, however, it seems Alia will eventually surpass him. 

At the North America box office, Bheemla Nayak has collected Rs 14.97 crore in the opening weekend followed by Gangubai Kathiawadi making Rs 8.16 crore and Valimai struggling with just Rs 2.70 crore. 

The difference between the collections of Bheemla Nayak & Gangubai Kathiawadi came on day one where Pawan Kalyan starrer scored huge. However, from day 2 collections of the two films were in the same range and on day 3, the Alia Bhatt starrer took over.
