‘What Is This Culture?’ Shane Warne’s ‘Beer & Cigarettes’ Tribute Upsets Many Indian Fans

After Shane Warne's untimely death, a VB beer can, a package of cigarettes, a meat pie, and several flowers were placed in front of his monument at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Even small youngsters who were not born when Warne played cricket paid their tributes to the monument with their parents.

Australian fans who visited the cricketer’s monument at the MCG brought cans of beer and left them on top of the stone base as a tribute, a final cheer with the man who lived life king size and was the heart and soul of the parties wherever he went.

Looking at the monument covered in beer cans in multiple photos that were being shared on social media ever since Warne’s passing away, a lot of his Indian fans were left with a bad taste in their mouth. They felt that the presence of alcohol on something like the statue, which is supposed to be pristine and pure, polluted the tribute that was meant to be given to the legendary spinner.

It was also later revealed by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews that The Great Southern Stand at the MCG will also be renamed after the recently deceased Australian bowler.

Warne died unexpectedly while on vacation in Thailand with a group of pals. He was just 52 years old when he passed away. The much-loved party-king was living at a luxurious island property with a games area, infinity pool, and breathtaking views of Thailand. In the early hours of Saturday morning, he was discovered unresponsive at the Samujana Villas resort on the island of Koh Samui.

Earlier today, the former Indian captain, Virat Kohli also expressed his heartbreak after receiving the news of Warne’s death ahead of Day 2 of the first Test match between India and Sri Lanka In Mohali.

Kohli was visibly upset and spoke about life being unpredictable and fickle. He essentially made his fans and viewers reinstate the fact that there is no guarantee on how long a person would get to live. His vulnerability on camera had the fans seeing a very different version of the legendary Indian cricketer as well.
