After a staggering batting performance by Chennai Super Kings in the first half of the Indian Premier League clash against the newly introduced franchise, Lucknow SuperGiants, most cricket fans were expecting a one-sided contest for the remainder of the day.

However, a strong start to the batting order by LSG skipper KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock who shared a 99-run partnership for the first wicket, followed by a game-defining knock by Evin Lewis, who remained undefeated whilst scoring 55 runs during the chase led the franchise’s incredible first win in the league.

During the final overs of the match, the staff members of the two sides were on the edge of their seats, nervously waiting for something miraculous to happen. Ultimately, the people supporting Lucknow got to jump off their seats and celebrate.

Among those happy faces, one belonged to the former Indian batter, ex-captain of Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow SuperGiants mentor Gautam Gambhir. In a video that has gone viral, Gambhir could be seen overjoyed after the 22-year old Ayush Badoni took the match-winning single.

The former KKR skipper and two-time IPL champion, Gambhir’s face was red with excitement, and he punched his fist in the air while popping off his chair shouting and screaming.

And even though LSK fans could relate to his reaction, most CSK fans, especially those loyal to the former CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni seem to have taken offence at how Gambhir behaved.

They criticised him for winning a single match almost as if they had won the IPL trophy and slammed him for his overzealous nature - a trait that Gambhir was known for, especially during his days of playing international cricket as one of the Men in Blue.

Dhoni fans also compared Gambhir’s reaction to how ‘Captain Cool’ has maintained his class even after winning four IPL titles during his team within the league - which is twice as many trophies as Gambhir has won.

However, a lot of fans were also completely comfortable with the way Gambhir reacted. In fact, they lauded the former cricketer for showing his passion, especially because this was the team’s very first victory ever and the way they managed to take the game away from CSK also showed promise.
