Iconic Singer George Michael Passed Away At 53 And Christmas Will Never Be The Same Again

Chances are that your growing up years have been filled with songs by  the pop band ‘Wham!’ and the wonderful voice of George Michael weaving magic with ‘Last Christmas’ and ‘Careless Whisper’ still fills the room with fervour when we all end up singing with him. The beautiful Christmas number singer met with a dreadful hand of fate on Christmas itself when he died yesterday due to heart failure.

George Michael was found dead at his home in Oxfordshire and his manager released an official statement hours later. The singer was a pop icon in the late 80s and 90s and sang about love like none of his contemporaries did.

His best selling album ‘Faith’ made his name permanent on the music scene and is still a staple for many of us. He was also the most played artist on the British radio network from 1984-2004, which is a huge achievement.

He became a major figure for the LGBT community after he came out as gay in 1998 and was an ardent supporter of AIDS awareness and gay rights.

The world not only lost an iconic figure of music, but a major part of our growing up years has also been buried with him.  Listening to ‘Careless Whisper’ will never be the same again for me and I guess, you’d agree.

May his soul rest in peace! That is the only prayer we have for the man who gave us a gift in the form of his music that shall stay long even after he is gone.
