Why is correct pronunciation important? Ask that person who to date is trolled and laughed at for getting it wrong. I know I was once called out for mispronouncing 'Chipotle'. We might not realize it, but getting the names right actually saves you from the countless jokes, weird reactions and nightmarish comments, which you know will haunt you for several days to come.
