Video games take a lot of effort to make and there is so much stuff that goes on behind the scenes that we don’t generally know what goes on during development. Sometimes we don’t know the inspiration behind the whole concept, or the little bugs and kinks that the developers had to deal with, before release. So, without further ado, here are some of the weirdest and most interesting facts behind some of the world’s most popular video games that you probably didn’t know. 

1. Pokemon was inspired by butterflies! Satoshi Tajiri, the series’ creator, used to collect caterpillars and watched them turn into butterflies, as a kid. 

2. Super Mario’s last name is also Mario, making his full name Mario Mario. 

3. Lara Croft’s breast size was actually an accident. The developers wanted to increase her breast size by 50%, but accidentally increased it by 150%. 

4. The maximum score anyone can achieve in Pac-Man is 3333360.

5. Mario actually doesn’t hit the bricks with his head, but actually punches them if look closely.

6. The highest grossing game of all time so far is ‘World of Warcraft’ and has made an insane 10 billion dollars over its lifetime.

7. ‘Devil May Cry’ started out as a failed ‘Resident Evil’ game. 

8. If you name yourself ‘Zelda’ instead of ‘Link’ in ‘The Legend Of Zelda’, you will be able to skip the first quest entirely. 

9. ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’s’ first appearance in any video game ever was as an air fresher emblem in the Sega video game ‘Rad Mobile’.
