Alienware announced a new gaming laptop that can give desktops a run for their money. There has been a steady rise in the demand for good gaming laptops but most of them cannot compete with its desktop counterparts. Laptops in general are compact in size which limits them from getting upgrades. Alienware now has a solution to this problem in the form of the new Area-51m gaming laptop.
Dell announced the new laptop at CES 2019 where the company describes it as the most powerful gaming laptop in the world. What's cool about this laptop is that every major component like the CPU, GPU, RAM, Hard Drive and even the battery is swappable. This, in essence, makes it more of a desktop PC where you can keep upgrading the hardware.
Currently, the laptop has a 17.3-inch 1080p display that has a 60Hz panel, G-Sync support at 60Hz; 144Hz with G-Sync support, 144Hz with Tobii eye tracking; or 144Hz with both of the features. It has a multi-coloured keyboard, an oval LED light and a minimalistic look that's a far cry from traditional aggressive looking gaming laptops. The laptop also weighs only 3.87kg and has narrower bezels as compared to previous models.
In terms of specifications, the Area-51m is powered by Intel's 8th Gen i7-8700 or 9th Gen i7-9700K, or i9-9900K. These CPUs are considered to be the one the best for gaming that will serve the purpose well over other gaming laptops in the market. The laptop also comes with a Graphics Form Factor (DGFF) GPU slot where users can fit NVIDIA's RTX 20-series cards (up to RTX 2080). For cooling, the laptop uses Cryo-Tech 2.0 technology.
The GPU can be overclocked on the Area-51m as it uses a maxed out version of the RTX 2080 and can deliver frame rates within around 5 to 10 percent of a desktop gaming PC. The laptop also runs Intel's desktop Z390 chipset where users can put up to a 1TB 2.5-inch hybrid drive and up to two 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSDs.
Due to the awesome specifications under the hood, the laptop comes with an expensive price tag and costs around $2,549 (Approx Rs 1,77,000). The laptop will be available from January 29th in the US and an Indian launch date can be expected soon.
