This was followed by the release of the movie posters at the beginning of this year, which piqued the interest of movie-goers and desi hip-hop fans alike! The teaser soon followed, and honestly, no one has been able to keep calm for obvious reasons!
The teaser gave us a glimpse the rising rap-star played by Ranveer, and his portrayal and original rap 'Asli Hip Hop' has taken the entire nation by storm! Ranveer and Alia's portrayal of two youngsters who live in the fringes of society, but wish to realise their dreams and aspirations, have struck a chord with millions in the country.
The trailer for 'Gully Boy' just dropped and it's a marvel how intimately the director has captured the struggles and fighting spirit of aspiring rappers in Mumbai, and traced their journey from the backstreets of the city to acquiring fame. Ranveer's serenades in the trailer is top notch music to the ears, and we can totally say that Divine's effort of teaching Ranveer the nuances of rapping are pretty evident.
Ranveer and Alia's chemistry in the trailer is top-notch, and we can't wait to unravel their story. We are smelling a love triangle in the making, given that Kalki Koechlin also seems pretty taken by the rapper boy here.
The trailer, with its many narratives, has effectively drawn us into the world of the underground rappers in Mumbai, who are trying to rise above their realities, setbacks and societal prejudices, to create a name and space for themselves. Ranveer's character is all set to take us through an equally emotional journey, that exposes the raw side of a struggling artist waiting to unleash his passion. Alia makes for an honest 'gundi', who also happens to be a loving and supportive girlfriend. The picturisations seem too true to life, and we're loving it!
This is going to be one hell of a ride, and perhaps like fans and hip-hop lovers in the country are claiming, this film in all probability might bring about the hip-hop revolution India has been waiting for all this time. We have loved how Zoya has presented these young dreams on the silver screen, and it wouldn't be wrong to say that it's going to be a long wait till the movie releases.
'Gully Boy' releases on 14th February.
