After a clinical performance in the ODI Series against New Zealand recently, the Indian team stumbled to a heavy defeat in the first T20 against the Kiwis.
A Kohli-less Indian side managed to score just 139 runs in response to New Zealand's 219 and eventually lost the match by 80 runs, registering their biggest defeat in T20I in terms of margin of loss.
Both the Pandya brothers were also included in the squad, but the biggest shocker was the choice of plaVijayvIjay Shankar at one-down. Lower down the order, the in-form duo of Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav was overlooked as well.
Rohit Sharma's choice of opting to field first clearly didn't pan out well for the visitors. The bowlers were the first ones to confront their worst nightmare by conceding 219 runs.
Hardik Pandya was taken for 51 in his quota of four overs, a personal record. It was then the batsmen who were bundled out well short. Dhoni high-scored with 39, but it was far from enough.
All in all, Team India was completed dominated by the hosts in all departments, who were the better team on the day by a big margin.
After the disappointing result, Indian fans, as expected, went all out on Twitter to express their dismay:
Women Indian team all out in 19.1 overs, lost by 23 runs
Men Indian team all out in 19.2 overs, lost by 81 runs

India played 8 batsmen, 3 wicketkeepers, 6 bowlers and still they lost. And (better than kohli ð)captain chose to bowl first.— Adnan Aadil (@thefirst_alpha) February 6, 2019
