In what turned out to be one of the deadliest terror strikes in recent times, a 20-year-old suicide bomber from Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) sent India and a billion citizens into a state of mourning after carrying out a ghastly strike that led to the demise of more than 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans in the Awantipora town of the Pulwama district, on 14th February 2019.
While the horrendous attack has disrupted peace in the country, at the same time, it has united India against the common evil of terrorism. Amid the ever-growing calls for revenge, there has been continuous support for the grieving families who lost their loved ones in Pulwama.
While Amitabh Bachchan has announced a donation of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the slain CRPF jawans, Virender Sehwag offered educational support to their children. Joining the burgeoning list of benefactors, Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan also came forward to aid the troubled families as a mark of respect for the Indian soldiers.
Taking to Facebook, Dhawan shared an emotional video where he was seen praising the CRPF martyrs for laying down their lives for the country. He also vowed to make a donation for the victims and their families while urging others to join the humanitarian cause.
Apart from Dhawan, Faiz Fazal-led Vidarbha also made a heartfelt gesture towards the families of the martyrs by donating their prize money after winning the Irani Cup following their triumph over Rest of India.
