Amidst national tensions, the National War Memorial made its presence felt when it was inaugurated on Monday, 25th of February, 2019 by PM Narendra Modi. The memorial honours all the soldiers who laid down their lives for the country, since India proclaimed Independence in 1947. The memorial is sprawled over 40 acres, at the India Gate complex, right at the heart of the capital and it was first proposed nearly 6 decades ago. The wait is finally over and we can salute our memorable war heroes, in a way they truly deserve to be remembered!
The memorial, built at the cost of Rs 176 crore, has 5 concentric circles, a central stone obelisk and an eternal flame.
Here are 12 pictures of the greatest symbol of honour and valour, we have in India today.

The memorial has names of 25, 942 fallen heroes etched on stones there and it will soon create interactive panels for general public who want to pay homage to the war heroes. The memorial will also be a place for the armed forces to conduct future ceremonies there. Along with the wall memoir, the memorial also has four Chakras (circles) that signify the value of the armed forces. The Amar Chakra is the circle of immortality, the Veerta Chakra is the circle of bravery, the Tyag Chakra is the circle of sacrifice and the Rakshak Chakra is the circle of protection.
More than any other heritage site you may want to visit in the capital, the National War Memorial should be the first on your list, as it's a symbol of true honour and pride for India.
